It starts at the personal level, boys. We gotta call out micro aggressions of misogyny. Stupid jokes, offhand comments, all of it. It's the only way we prove we're ready for the bigger stuff. Stay vigilant.
I've been having a similar shift in my understanding! I also thought about grades very differently than my students do today. I still have students who do the things you mention, of course, but I struggle to relate to the majority of students who don't. It's weird to mentor around the mismatch.

Ok, I decided I can't pie my students, but I CAN make actual pie and offer them slices (to eat, not for face shoving) if they donate.
An email with the subject line "Invitation: Participate in SCPH's ‘Pie Your Professor’ Fundraiser." The body of the email reads: "Hey Dr. Seiler! A few students have asked if its possible to pay and be pied by you during our fundraiser? What are your thoughts?"
I was asked to volunteer for a "Pie Your Professor" fundraiser held by UW's SPH Students of Color for Public Health group.
I remember (gently) shoving whipped cream pies into my high school teachers' faces and of course I'll pay it forward, right?
