And despite all that, had to admit he didn’t tell number 10 anything and that Starmer told the truth and that his job is to approve the appointee regardless of anything.

That’s certainly a ‘take’.
Another ‘take’ is that he defended the civil service to the nth deg, refused to name anybody, didn’t take notes about anything, complained about pressure(god forbid the foreign service has to respond to external event timings) and gave the impression he would do anything.

I am not that’s true.
In the committee they said he had a folder with two parts and each part had what looked to be a 2 page cover sheet/s with boxes that ticked and showed the overall process recommendations for him - they had blank templates.

Maybe, if it was borderline, why ?
Can everything be mitigated? The obvious answer we know now is that the security services thought they couldn’t which is why they ticked the red box.
Maybe he should have looked at the cover sheets for the two sections to ensure he knew what he was signing off.

None of those countries have as much outside political interference on their social media as we do.
They also didn’t have an idiotic baffoon who lied 20 times day and a medically off their rocker women as leaders.

Of course there was pressure, it’s why he’s paid the big bucks.
However, he’s clear it made no difference and even the fact that he was a political appointee made no difference.

Importantly, we had a known close associate of a pedophile, who had to resign multiple times for lying and financial regularities, who was known as the prince of darkness, and ‘Olly’ didnt think to ask a few basic questions before approving the vetting or even looking at the cover checkbox form.

The most important things for me are that he has NO evidence for anything he said because he has NO notes on anything. He can’t recall how often they “pressured him” and didn’t give into that anyway. He refuses to say who messaged him.
He wasn’t told that the security services had ticked a red box.

It certainly doesnt help that so many commentators are not getting the facts right, regardless of where they are in the political spectrum.
It’s a highly convoluted story and apart from the aspect that he should never have been appointed (somethjng apologised for constantly) there isn’t anything.

The answer to most of those questions is that Kemi is deliberately conflating two different things.
He didn’t fail the security vetting process because the civil servant in charge approved it.
However, they approved it despite being advised against it by the security services.

The appointment was also leaked when it was confirmed. But prior to betting completion. Whether that was mandleson or a member of the civil service we will never know.

The problem is that many groups have stood back saying it’s only xxx it doesn’t matter.
Until all of these marginal groups stand up for each other, disgusting folks will think they have a right to pick them off one at a time and be opened with their hatred.
It’s far harder now because they didn’t.

People should have started taking it seriously years ago.
We have east Europeans vilified before Brexit. Trans people, Islam, Pakistan/asian heritage. We’ve had flags put up on lampposts to intimidate people and politicians who complain about too many non whites (see Laura k today).

Call me old fashioned but if he wants the job so much how about he starts giving his views on the major subjects.
How would he deal with trump?
How would he deal with reform?
What taxes should rise or fall?
How would he approach the welfare problem?
What about cost of living?
Etc etc

Why, given the state of the world currently, no growth, rapidly rising energy costs, supposedly high taxes for companies, and the isolation of the UK, is the FTSE All share index currently up 20% in the last 12 months and close to record highs?

Who is our economy working for?

A bit like Rubio leaving Trump and then running on a more sensible, normal republican platform that would appeal to some of the more moderate racists and bigots.
It’s a win, but we can and need to do so much better.
Let’s judge Magyar in 12-18 months.

As good as Magyars win is, I can’t but feel, that the win is related in a large part to his association with the previous regime.
Many voters would have thought they could trust him to re-engage with Europe and remove the influence of Putin but still to run a make Hungary great again agenda.

This isn’t a politician that has gone rogue, it’s a country that’s gone rogue.

It’s important to understand that’s it’s not just Netanyahu. Just like Forage it’s the only person to blame in the UK.
He’s got a lot of enablers, not least the large population that keep voting for him and the far right party’s. In Isreal he also has the military and idf backing him.

Equally, people can’t go to the centre of London to support Palestine, but if you’re a Nazi then that’s fine.
None of it makes the slightest bit of sense, unless you decide those involved are utter hypocrites.

I don’t get it - to be honest I don’t want to but…
NatWest/coutts didn’t have the freedom to decide to decline Farage as a customer.
Yet, an open Neo-Nazi should have the freedom to perform at a concert in the centre of London to earn money.

Millionaire Melvin benn, who has turned Glastonbury into a business that makes millions a year in profit, who is part of the live nation group that owns ticketmaster and pays hundreds of millions for operating illegally. That melvin benn, pretending he’s a saint and it’s not about money.

Got it.

Could the multi million Max, who’s been given everything by F1, not talk about leaving F1?

It’s funny how much both him and verstappen complain.
Can’t have anything to do with how bad their cars etc are….it simply can’t.

Bonkers, he’s obviously never even been to a Palm Sunday service. Every service I’ve ever been to, they give out small crosses made from palm trees and explain why they do it and where the name Palm Sunday comes from.

I’ve been a fan of Bowen for decades. Arguably the best roving reporter in the UK since the 90s and well deserving a position on the BBC News board when he finally wants to retire.

Very good article in the athletic about academy players etc.
Arsenal has probably the worst record in the league re playing under 21s over the last 5 years- Katie the exception at the start of the year.
Have we learnt that lesson yet? Has management? Has Renee?

Surely he can ask his fellow members on the board of peace…..

Except he can’t because they are all as much use as a fart.

Of course. Then a special panorama program about how they made such an awful decision and how, without the television money, the two universities will have to fund it themselves leading to poverty and children dying (and how private schools will close).
