What I see in these attacks – removing books, limiting speech and deporting op ed writers, attempting to sanction universities and law firms – is that books, speech, education and law are POWERFUL.

They are a threat to authoritarianism.

For a Passover miracle, I am begging reporters to stop repeating the lie that the far right’s purges and efforts to dismantle higher education are rooted in any genuine concern with fighting antisemitism.

Every single university president should be asked, in public, why they are not speaking out this way to support all the students currently detained without due process, and all those terrified that they will be next, on every campus in this country. Yes, including Columbia's acting president.
