We know that, for a ton of reasons, a lot of folks don't have as much to spend as they'd like this holiday season. Sooooooo, here's a thread of things you can do that will support your local indie bookstore or other business WITHOUT spending any more than you intended...

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

I don't blame you one bit. I guess that's what happens when they all get gobbled up to Big Three. It's a bummer. I'm at a small, cozy bookstore and much happier.

I ran events at a large indie bookstore, & publishers absolutely made us bundle tkts for big authors. A lot of things changed after Covid. 100 people would sign up for a free event, and 10 would show up, if that. If you've worked on the bookstore side of things, you'd have a different perspective.

It's also people showing up with the book from A****n or Target. It takes a lot to put on an event, and its so hard to make it profitable. I used to do a $5 ticket/coupon. Then you could bring a friend!

The publishers require it. It's not the bookstores making that decision.
