Dear Taper Community: were you at Big Ears? Did you record any of DoYeon Kim's performances?
If so, please let me know! I recently interviewed her for an upcoming episode of my radio show @wfmu.bsky.social and am searching for recent live material from her. Thx! 🙏

In terms of creative improvised music, this will likely be one of the most memorable debut albums of 2026.

Choose your fighter! CD vs Vinyl
While I prefer #vinyl the music is more important than the format. There are valid reasons to prefer CD. Here the CD has an an album’s amount of bonus tracks never on vinyl. My favorite track from these sessions is only on the CD.

Finally, my view is - you do you boo!
Love whatever format you prefer and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
In the end: support artists and buy their music in whatever format you prefer.

The Jerusalem Cross is a symbol of the Crusades. Disingenuous people argue it’s “just a representation of Christianity and not bigoted”
But we all fucking know the Crusades was about massacring anyone that wasn’t Christian.

Sunday #vinyl finds
I believe these are all 1st pressings, except "Lift Every Voice," which is a 2nd pressing.
Coltrane & Brown are vinyl upgrades. "New & Old Gospel" and "Voice" are upgrades from CDs. And I didn't have "Grass Roots" in any format.
Plus, paid no $$ out of pocket; all trades!
I definitely prefer CDs, but I respect people who prefer vinyl.
In this particular case, no. The tracks were only available to buy on cassette; they were/are not streaming and were/are not available to buy as digital downloads.
However, if you bought the cassette directly from her and asked, she would send you digital files. So, in the end, I have digital files
When does it become ‘cancel culture’ again?

Right now CDs are unquestionably a more affordable alternative to vinyl. Even though this arguably boosts the price of my collection, it hurts my ability to buy new music. I simply can't buy as much. But this wasn't always the case! When I started circa 1990 vinyl was ***cheaper** than discs.

Heck, I’ll even buy a cassette (I no longer have a player) if that’s the only way to get the music.

Everything isn’t released on vinyl. If I want the music, I’m not going to let it pass by just because there’s no vinyl. This Braxton CD box has never been released on vinyl.

CDs are best for extended performances. You’d have to flip the vinyl multiple times to hear these long live sets. Again, while I generally prefer vinyl, here the CD makes much more sense.

DOGON A.D. Julius Hemphill MBARI
While I generally prefer original pressings, sometimes the reissue sounds better. The sound on this CD reissue does fix some of the imperfections in the original. I’ve said before that I prefer this CD reissue to the recent vinyl reissue.
