Someone got their verb tenses wrong.
You know you’re getting old when twice in two days you can’t come up with the word “biscotti” - you know those Italian coffee cookie thingys!!!!!?!?!? Sheesh.
Thank you!!!
Today I'm celebrating a pretty big milestone -- we've now registered 10,000 vineyards in the non-profit, crowdsourced Old Vine Registry. We hit our audacious goal 15 months earlier than we'd hoped to.

Every year I try to use the barrel samples at the Premiere Napa Valley auction to get a handle on the qualities of a recent vintage. Here's my look at the 2024 wines, which delivered excellence in the face of a hot season.
Last week's column for @jancisrobinson subscribers looked at Napa Merlot's identity crisis. It can't quite decide whether it wants to be just like Cabernet but a little cheaper, a fundamentally more approachable red wine, or something else entirely.

The world (or someone in Germany) decided that today, March 13th, is Riesling's birthday (apparently the 1st mention in recorded history). How old is Riesling? 591 years young. That's a lot of candles. Definitely worth celebrating one of the world's greatest wine grapes. Cheers!

SHAME THE HEAVY BOTTLES!!!
I've heard many people tell this same story again and again. Sounds like some chickens may be finally coming home to roost.
Innocent until proven guilty, and the old saw about being able to indict a ham sandwich notwithstanding.... this is pretty big for the wine world, and seems to anecdotally jive with what industry insiders have been saying for years...

Oh! So sad to hear that author Dan Simmons passed away last week from a stroke at the age of 77. Hyperion is one of the greatest Science Fiction novels ever written, in my not-so-humble opinion. His talent will be missed. RIP.
Screenshot of an X post by Ann Coulter commenting on Trump’s State of the Union address and arguing that the U.S. cannot have a second-, third-, or fourth-generation immigrant as president because “love for our country has to be in your genes.” Below it is a “Readers added context” note stating that President Trump is himself a second-generation immigrant through his Scottish-born mother and a third-generation immigrant through his German-born paternal grandparents.
Community note FTW.
Border Patrol agents left a partially blind refugee who spoke little English in the parking lot of a Buffalo coffee shop on Feb. 19, according to security camera footage reviewed by The Post.
He was found dead five days later.
This month for subscribers of @JancisRobinson I’ve done a deep dive into the wine that so many love but virtually none can sell: California Riesling. www.vinography.com/2... #winethreads

So I didn't keep perfect track, but it looks to me from my notes that the Premiere Napa Valley Auction #pnv2026 raised about $2.7 million today, with an average per-case price of about $2250. That's significantly down (18.5%) from $3.3 million in 2025.
100% best decanter ever made.

Great acidity, first and foremost. Bright, clean flavors. Persistence on the palate.
Cobb makes three, Bedrock one or two depending on vintage - all in tiny quantities. Rare as hen’s teeth.
Check out Tatomer, Desire Lines, Bedrock, Reeve, Smith Madrone, Navarro, Cobb
Tasting through more than 50 California Rieslings this afternoon - my deepest dive into the category ever - and very impressed with a number of wines. People are figuring this grape out.
