-Fan Art Friday!-
Each week we're highlighting a lovely piece of #Kumitantei art from our community, and we'd love to see yours with #kumifanart!
This week we have some wicked Hiroshi art from @frostyiruma.bsky.social !
The How to train your dragon trilogy is beautiful, and this is only from the second movie! I think the trilogyβsβ animation is probably some of Dreamworksβ best in terms of raw beauty, realism, and such.
Not downplaying how cool some of their recent movies look, though.
This exactly the truth of it, and it becomes so blatantly obvious whenever you actually look at it with this mindset.
"mary sue" has long been shorthand for "this female character is competent in a field that's not exclusively feminine and proves it on-screen embarrassing the male characters".
she could be a genuinely wonderful well-rounded character, but if she ever shows up a male character, she's a mary sue.
I think the only fandom I havenβt seen misogyny in would be the DDLC fandom, because itβs literally only women. But then again people do tend to villanize Monika too an extreme without looking at her perspective on her existence.
Misogyny isnβt just limited to hating women, however, because thereβs also a form of misogyny in being unable to describe female characters as nothing but βgirlbossesβ or βqueensβ. And then thereβs even misogyny in how the characters themselves are written.
Iβm only naming from my own fandoms, but you could go into any fandom with a woman character and I bet you sheβs hated or unpopular. If she isnβt unpopular, she has people hating on her for misogynistic reasons.
Fandoms refuse to acknowledge the depth female characters have besides the surface level, and even then, canβt acknowledge or understand things said outright to them in the story itself. I can list examples; Miu Iruma, Maki Harukawa, Kaede Akamatsu, Astrid Hofferson, and many others.
Fandom misogyny is such a huge issue, and I know this conversation is done to death. But it genuinely pisses me off that female characters are called βMary suesβ among many other things for absolutely no reason. When they have more than enough character to justify their presence.
