Ah, great to know about this. I love & admire her book Last Samurai.
[At a 'math rock' concert] What answer did you get for the first song?
It's insanely good. Can't believe it happened in the first place.

I bought one the moment it's been announced. It's so good, Jean. You'll love it. The built-in speakers are rather poor, though, so just make sure to use it with external speakers/headphones.
my glass coffin company “remains to be seen” is not doing as well as i thought it would.
Did the translations for Yuriko Takagi's exhibition Threads of Beauty (last ever show at Bunkamura in Shibuya before it'll be demolished) & was invited to last night's preview. Nice spatial design by architect Tsuyoshi Tane, with photos mounted on textile-like canvas sheets and dimly illuminated.

Great analysis from the great @thelincoln.bsky.social, with bonus inclusion of some of the most extravagantly awful writing imaginable.
I battled my way through the 30-odd pages of French, fighting against the will to give up, only to find out, upon finishing the book, that there was a translation included at the back. Actually laughed out loud at that point; felt like I'd been pranked by The Mann.
Rev. Jesse Jackson's "I *am* somebody..." remains one of the all-time great pieces of 20th century rhetoric / agitprop
And he could deliver it at a Black separatist meeting, the Democratic National Convention, or on god-blessed Sesame Street (see below 🥹)
RIP to the Voice of the Voiceless
Marty Supreme's a really good movie, and I liked reading @naomialderman.bsky.social's thoughts about it:

first green bud of the year is out. life continues in 2026.
can't wait to find out how it ends. that milton fellow knows how to keep you on your toes.
victims' names couldn't be more symbolic. fascism kills what's good and beautiful.
wish i had more followers to direct towards you

Cover of Ted Turton's book "My Travels with Footsbarn Theatre: A Memoir". It features a painting by the author, mostly in attractive pastels of blue, green and yellow-orange. It shows a giant figure in silhouette striding across a landscape. He has a ponytail and a pole, wears a coat and boots, and is smiling. In the foreground is a town, with a cat on a roof looking down on street performers moving across a bridge. Beyond the town is a sea with small boats to the left and mountains to the right, in the distance. The striding figure behind the mountains makes them look tiny. At the top is a quote from Michael D. Higgins, former president of Ireland: "...an evocative reminder that the arts can be a bridge between cultures...in a world that now finds itself divided and in conflict".
Ted Turton, the painter who co-founded the Galway Arts Festival, wrote a lovely memoir about his adventures with the legendary Footsbarn Travelling Theatre.
I had the pleasure of copy-editing it, and it's on sale at
