In honor of #EarthDay, here is a reminder that there is a bot account that posts a photo of the whole Earth from a million miles away, taken by the Deep Space Climate Observatory, several times daily. You can view all the images (and zoom in) here: epic.gsfc.nasa.gov

And the connection is even greater considering that the brightest “star” in the image is Venus. 😉
Jupiter alert!!🔭
At ~17:38 UT on Apr 18, a dark elongated feature was reported on Jupiter. This may indicate a possible impact of a > 100m class object on Jupiter.
Reported location: L1 166°, L2 302°, L3 218°, latitude -4°.

Welcome to the club! 😊
Black and white telescope image of a star-filled sky, with a bright vertical streak cutting through the centre, left by the passage of the Artemis II Orion module.
We spotted some of that Moon joy! 🌙
In the early morning of 9 April, our NTT Telescope turned its gaze to the sky above La Silla and caught something special.
Not a distant galaxy, nor a star cluster, but a streak of light with a very special story 👇 1/3
I was very fortunate to learn the basics of planetary image processing in a short course by Paul.
(At the International Research School of Planetary Sciences, Pescara, Italy, 2002.)
His work was so impressive, and at the same time he was so humble and friendly. Truly an example to follow.
Did you hear or feel the sonic boom from the Artemis II reentry? Fill out a “Did You Feel It?” report!
It will say earthquake but fill it out for the boom.

Just thought you might like to know.

The Moon seen just after the Artemis II spacecraft watched the earthrise and regained contact with us. From my location in the Universe, the Moon was rising over the horizon, so its light traversed a long stretch of Earth’s atmosphere. Because of that, Earth’s atmospheric light absoption gave the Moon image an orange hue. And atmospheric turbulence caused image distorsions, most evident along the Moon’s limb.
Waving back at #Artemis minutes after its astronauts watched the #Earthrise and saluted us.
This is almost the opposite view of the Moon to the one they were seeing.

If you haven’t watched this before, you really should. The brilliant Dr. Carl Sagan testifying before the United States Congress in 1985 on #ClimateChange.
We should have listened then. Will we now?
Remember, climate change isn’t an on & off switch. It’s an exponential dial. We’re making it worse.

A calm landscape by the Mediterranean Sea, with rocks in the foreground, small irregular waves on a dark blue water, and a golden sunset.
Reflection of the golden sun on small, irregular waves by the sea shore, in a calm sunset.
Anticyclone afternoon at the Mediterranean shore near Barcelona, Spain.
No clouds, just gold over a velvet of blue.
A spiral galaxy, seen tilted diagonally. It has a blue-white, glowing spot at its core. Its oval-shaped disc glows faintly blue throughout with light from its many stars. The disc is filled with waves and strands of bright red dust that swirl around the core. At places there are holes torn in the dust, while elsewhere it forms dense clumps that glow orange. Several tiny, distant galaxies appear across the background.
