Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is starting to look like a reasonable basis for a system of government.

If your Kickstarter video/image is AI, I won't back it.
If your book has an AI cover, I won't read it.
If you're a public supporter of AI use for creative work, I will unfollow you.
I cannot stress enough how offensive I find AI use in the arts. It is outright theft, it is lazy, it is gross.

Dr Herbert West from the film Reanimator hovers over specimaen trays while holding up a syringe full of glowing green liquid. He wears a white lab coat and has an unhinged look in his eye. In one specimen tray is the head of Jesus, and in the other, a bunny. Beakers and flasks flank the trays.

Because it makes me laugh.

Ha! It’s not the toilet that’s in the wrong location, it’s the stove…is what I’m telling myself.

A set of screenshots from DEEP SPACE NINE. An old Klingon throws his arms around Dax and shouts "Curzon, my beloved old friend!"

Dax returns the hug and says "I'm Jadzia now."

The Klingon grabs her shoulders, smiles, and says "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!"

Star Trek figured this out thirty years ago. It's not hard. Even an old, drunk Klingon got it.

Oh absolutely not. I voted for you. This plays into the hands of the authoritarians and oligarchs. It is beneath you.

OSC was heartbreaking for little baby gay me. After reading his ridiculous diatribe on gay marriage I tossed all his books. Even the autographed ones!

AKA the Rave Room, as the non-coms call it.

Wendy Carlos helped raise electronic music and synthesizers from esoteric obscurities into part of the larger whole of music, and Kraftwerk turned them loose in the world of pop. Electronic music was largely just an eccentric curiosity before them.

My guess is that you’re already aware of @bennjordan.bsky.social and his research into Flock cameras (and surveillance cameras in general), but if not, he’s come to some disturbing (though not particularly surprising) conclusions.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 21: There is no excuse for using gen. AI. None at all. If Jean-Dominique Bauby could write THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY using nothing but determination, brainwork and his eyelids, then you can manage without cheating.

The annoying gruntwork you’re off-loading to AI is how you learn basic information and skills that help power the logical leaps that lead to creation and innovation. This is why CEOs are all f**king idiots.

I have to save this post because there are great responses and about 90% of them are going on my ‘buy’ list if I don’t already have them.

Toss-up between Psycho (am I weird that it’s a favorite? I’ve been told that.), Star Trek: TMP, and Blade Runner. But there are SO MANY amazing scores out there. Any from Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams. John Barry. Elmer Bernstein. The list goes on.

I don't "feel" my work has been stolen.
I know it.
This kind of language use by the NYT is part of the problem.
Framing it as some kind of emotional woo woo instead of a clear copyright breach...
