A dark, atmospheric game screenshot shows a hot-air balloon drifting over a deep blue sea in a colder mildland region called “Gray Bight Drift.” The current location is “Hearth Cay Reach.” Small green islands sit far apart across the water, with pale rocky shores, sparse trees, tiny buildings, and low rain clouds. Labels mark nearby places such as Reed Strand Shallows, Bracken Islet Crossing, Heather Ledge Pass, and Cloud Watch Shelter. Thin diagonal rain streaks cross the scene, giving the ocean a damp, windy feeling. A small balloon floats near the upper center while scattered birds, boats, and distant island silhouettes fill the sea around it. The top HUD shows status, fuel, hull integrity, clock, and knowledge. A vertical menu on the right lists Stats, Flight, Island, Bottle, and Systems. At the bottom, a navigation panel shows heading, wind bands, rain outlook, and altitude, emphasizing quiet route planning through weather and open water.

Flying hot air balloon is difficult you can’t really steer it, must predict landing by using different wind band. Driftya: Sea of Notes

Added another biome type, mildland.
Here is a older video showing gameplay, www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMhH...

atmospheric game screenshot shows a hot-air balloon drifting above a deep blue sea scattered with small islands. The interface suggests a calm exploration game. At the top, a status bar shows the region as “Calm Shoals” and the current location as “Lantern Point Break.” Other panels display status, fuel, hull integrity, clock, and knowledge. In the center-right sky, a small striped balloon floats above labeled islands and passages, including Emerald Watch Depth, Lantern Point Break, Velvet Atoll Passage, Tropic Lagoon Passage, Sunwake Ledge Rise, Black Islet Peak, and Moonsalt Watch Waters. Several islands are visible as pale sandy shapes with patches of green, some with tiny trees or buildings. A lighthouse stands on a small rocky island near the lower left. Along the bottom, a wide HUD shows heading, wind bands, altitude, and flight details, reinforcing the sense of quiet navigation and route planning across an open sea.

Could be a nice kind of game.
Just drifting, reading the wind, and finding islands, relics or notes in bottles.

Why Driftya Skips Likes and Reactions Driftya removes likes to focus on meaningful replies. Instead of passive reactions, messages continue through real responses between people.

Is "like" overused? To me it has been less and less important, now days it feels like quantity over quality.

Digital Minimalism Should Work Both Ways: Users and Platforms Digital minimalism is often framed as a user choice. But healthier online spaces may also depend on how platforms design conversations and shape interaction.

Developing a service having digital minimalism in mind.

Thanks, “letting the note travel” is kind of the idea. 😀

So instead of bringing media into Driftya, I tried letting messages leave Driftya as multimedia.

The note can go further if it wants to.

Also work 100% in the browser and no signup requires to test it standalone.

Why Driftya Uses Drift Circles Instead of Followers Driftya replaces followers with Drift Circles, connections formed through real note exchanges instead of follow counts. A calmer way to connect online.

Some thought about followers, and follow-back, do you follow back new followers?

Why I Built Driftya: Rethinking Social Media Without Likes or Algorithms Why Driftya was built: exploring meaningful replies, privacy-first design, and a simpler social platform without likes, follower counts, or engagement metrics.

Sharing some background, architecture and SEO, and when I was struggling on the decision of using SPA or not.

I been using server-rendered pages plus small interactive “islands” instead of a full SPA for my current project. I think it has been worth the trade-offs.

How Driftya Uses Mood to Reduce Negative Spirals Online How Driftya uses mood-based routing to reduce negative spirals online and create calmer conversations instead of amplifying anger or outrage.

Online conversations can spiral because strong emotions travel far.

Safety by Design: What EU Social Media Regulation Teaches Us About Platform Safety How EU social media regulation and the Digital Services Act highlight the importance of safer platform design, reporting systems, and user protection.

This is basically my documentation of the work I’m doing on Driftya.

What I’m trying to build is a customer wellbeing-first social platform, where the user comes before engagement scores.

Still using RSS/Atom readers?

I added feeds to the Driftya content pages.

It also turns out feeds are surprisingly useful for AI/LLM discovery now.

Why is it so hard to get engagement when you’re new to a social platform? A social platform without likes or follower counts. Driftya removes engagement metrics and focuses on one-to-one message continuation.

If the user is inactive they have at least had one notification and I have made use of redis persistent cache to suppress notifications so it will also reset after 7 days and that is configurable by notification types.

1 month ago 0 0 0 0

I have thought of notification and it should be less spammy, now I have changed so we only get one per user activity so if you are inactive you won’t be spammed with notifications.

Do you hate getting many notifications?

I try to find out if a future social media can be a platform where bots thrive less, less audience/more individuals. A balance between creator and readers, more one to one.

Not everything needs a paragraph.

Driftya now lets you send a 32×32 pixel doodle instead of a long note.

Not yet sure if it follows what driftya should be.

A note on a journey.

I have using BoxySVG for this and animating them with simple CSS/JS.
The balloon started as an SVGRepo asset that I restyled to match Driftya's minimal icon style.
