Looking forward to my non-bearded self playing at Bearded Theory next month on the Friday.

I’m off to see THE BRIDE! tonight fully expecting an entertaining hot mess of a film (and to fail to get the Lupino reference).
The joy of grassroots venue like The Tin Music and Arts is seeing an act you’ve never seen before in an intimate setting and leaving feeling you’ve got a new favourite band. It’s happened to me many times before and it happened again today with the marvellous Hedera.

I never wanted to be an accountant. I want to be a lumberjack. Wait, wrong song. I want to be a barista.

I had a blast supporting Mik Artistik last night. It was also the first time I played my Pinball Wizard parody Wordle Addict live. Though I refrained from smashing my ukulele up at the end.

Tonight at The Tin in Coventry.

I’ve no idea if Pete Townshend plays Wordle, but once I had the idea of updating Pinball Wizard I couldn’t resist.

Did someone mention it was Bandcamp Friday?
Did someone mention I have a new album out?
Was that someone me in both cases?
😎
Mik Artistik is a true Glastonbury legend. The archetypal crazy thing in the green fields that you remember more than a Pyramid Stage headliner viewed from miles back. I’m delighted to support him at the Tin to give folks a double dose of musical weirdness.

What would young Nick Cave do? What’s Pete Townsend’s favourite online word game? Is Thom Yorke a morning kind of person? On Questionable Behaviour I try to answer all these questions and more. Take a listen on Bandcamp or streaming to see if I come up with better answers than generative AI.
Godwin's law. As true today as in 1990 as the guy from Jojo Rabbit just gets mentioned out of habit.

A fourth Beatles anthology album and still no trace of McCartney’s original version of Lady Madonna. You’ll have to make do with my recreation of it instead.

Bandcamp Friday. Or buy more of the Gondwana Records back catalogue day as I like to call it.
I think my prevailing music taste at the moment is “token jazz nomination for the Mercury Prize”.
Farewell Tom Lehrer. Thanks for your minor musical miracles.
My phone is now 8 years old, two operating systems out of date and has 24 apps I can no longer update. Not sure how long I can keeping singing to myself that I don’t need a new one.

Heartily enjoyed The Specials At Coventry Cathedral on Sky Arts last night, particularly seeing Horace Panter, the only man funkier than Spon End Santa, having a whale of a time.

It’s a watch Die Hard and do Christmas prep kind of evening so time to post this.
🎶He’s making a list, gives it to the police
🎶He wants Asian dawn to be released
🎶Hans Gruber is coming to town

It’s not typical Christmas music, but if the idea of Yann Tiersen soundtracking Amelie watching crows on a winter afternoon in a Clerkenwell churchyard appeals then I’d recommend cocking an ear to this, freshly released by The Real Tuesday Weld

The Beatles have strong links with Coventry.
🌱 Lennon planted his first acorns for peace at Cov Cathedral.
🚗 McCartney got a speeding ticket at malfunction junction
🐴 The original version of Lady Madonna was about Lady Godiva.
Some of these statements may be true.

Thanks to @aaronashmore.bsky.social for adding me to his Coventry Creatives starter pack (go.bsky.app/4RGGMeE). As a welcome here’s my song about the Coventry Ring Road - “a modern marvel for commuters, designed on Coventry’s first computer”.

Like the rug in The Big Lebowski it really ties the song together.
First new music video in a while.
A tirade against terrible parking married to the chorus of Crazy Horses by The Osmomds.

10 years on and the Cov Ring Road song is still going strong. This time as part of Vic Minett’s celebration of the road’s 50th birthday on BBC C&W Radio.
🎶It is a road without end
🎶And it’s driving me around the bend

Does the sleeve of The Queen Is Dead count?
Trying to remember if I saw Plein Soliel as part of a Ripley film talk at the Arts Centre or whether I’ve just seen a lot of clips of it.
Can’t think who the ukulele player in this Bristol mural reminds me of…
(thanks to Kryzi for spotting it).
Wrapped recording on album 9 and already into writing songs for album 10 (a tribute to buying physical media over streaming to the tune of Lets Get Physical).
This weekend’s episode making Richard E Grant’s Shalka Doctor officially part of the Dr Who canon is all well and good. But what we really want is Disney+ bankrolling a series where Withnail crashes into the life of McGann’s Doctor.

If I ever I needed a sign that I need to stop writing more songs it’s forgetting that I’d written this given the weekend’s events. 🤦♂️
Kilgore Trout is the fictional alter ego of Kurt Vonnegut, the patron saint of failed creatives everywhere and possibly my spirit animal. I felt he deserved a song.
