I'm going to be taking a qualitative analysis course for my EdD program and would like to talk to physics teachers who have attempted to bring social justice topics into their classrooms, particularly around any obstacles or push back you faced from students, parents, or admin.

since it is Muppet Christmas Carol time, let us revisit this wonderful interview with Michael Caine, who loves it as much as the rest of us
“People say to me, Have you ever sung? I say, Yes, I sang in a movie. They say, Who with? I say, Kermit the Frog.”
Community college professors, how does your cc handle online international students? Is it just oos tuition, or are there other considerations? #iteachphysics @thephysicsshow.bsky.social
California, a state of nearly 40,000,000 people, has the same amount of representation in the United States Senate as Wyoming, a state of less than 600,000 people.
This is the direct result of a deal struck between slave states and free states in the 1700s.
It’s time for that to change.
like i have been saying, a lot of americans do not treat politics as “real” — they approach it with an ironic distance that allows them to treat clear threats and statements of intent as mere rhetoric. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/u...
A gray and white kitty rolls around on the floor covered in catnip and clearly enjoying himself.
A different gray and white kitty sits in front of a pile of catnip staring into infinity, so very sad, the very picture of ennui and heartbreak.
Fred is a catnip cat. Earl is not.
Figured it out! Kitties!
Kitty cat first contact achieved.
How do you post photos on this thing?
“The election of Trump is more than a political event…His rise is not accidental but symptomatic, emerging from the depths of collective fear, dread, and anxiety stoked by a savage form of gangster capitalism—neoliberalism—that thrives on division and despair.” www.counterpunch.org/2024/11/08/a...
I keep trying to write something eloquent and just being tired.
History matters. Philosophy matters. Languages and literature matter. Indigenous studies matter. Arts and humanities and social sciences matter. All of them.

Every private school now does the publishing of faculty giving %. Apparently one study showed that metric was tied to parent donations because it "showed dedication", so it became popular to coerce faculty into it. I'm betting it's meaningless at this point, but that won't stop the exploitation!
Finished putting together the back bathroom with box and litter and cleaning infrastructure, water fountain, upside down box with towel inside, right side up box with warming pad and blanket inside, toys, and food / treat bowls on deck to be filled with what they give me.
5 hours to new kitties.
And really fun, too.

I literally today got 98/100 on a grad school final project because I had to take an incomplete. The minus 2 was a late penalty, despite the project being of high enough quality she suggested I pursue publication. It's very discouraging.
I think President Biden should pardon a shit ton more people -- a bunch of marijuana convictions, but mostly preemptive pardons to take trump's retribution targets off the backs of his press and political "enemies list."
No fucks left, Joe.
Just do it.
This is the energy we will need!!

I don't think you do. I think you just write anyway.
Thinking about signing up to do a conference presentation, and the requirements are for the session to be both pre-recorded and interactive.
I have a few ideas about how to approach this, but any advice, suggestions, tips, or tricks welcome.

The best thing a student can possibly tell me is that they can't stop thinking about physics. #iTeachPhysics
"I lie awake on my mattress thinking about Hooke's Law." YES. 💤
"I helped my gym buddies using torque" YES.🏋️
"I brake before curves now." THIS IS ACTUALLY THE GOAL. 🚗
This helps explain why I and my adhd brain need to throw out most of my curriculum each year and overhaul or rewrite the rest, sometimes in the five minutes between classes because I had An Idea. Doing it the same way over and over would kill my enthusiasm immediately.
A friendly reminder that the charter industry was designed to help you feel comfortable with public school privatization (aka school choice) and is backed by the same group of billionaires, for decades, everyone is now painfully aware of. Chaos is the point.

Finally signed up and rejoining the #iteachphysics conversation! I have missed this community and looking forward to more.
Illinois has put an end to the injustice of cash bail. And it’s working better than anyone expected.
Subtitles aren’t just for deaf or hard of hearing players. They’re important for players in loud environments (who can’t use headphones), non-native speakers who rely on text to follow dialogue, and many neurodivergent folks who struggle to focus or process audio quickly. Just to mention few.
