I tried to add a $6 smart button to my house. Spent way too long trying to get it to work.
Matter & Thread were supposed to fix the smart home.
They haven’t.

The Artemis II crew took this photo of the Milky Way. Just look at the breathtaking universe we live in.
A mobile news notification from AP showing breaking news about Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, overlaid on a background meme image of the Goodfellas scene of the characters laughing.

A clear plastic storage container with a blue rim holds multiple bottles of honey with yellow caps, featuring a "Cruft Apiary Wildflower Honey" label with a bee logo, sitting on a marble surface next to a textured wall. A sous vide machine is in the container as well.

Adventures in beekeeping:
My daughter, Zoe, stopped by and helped me set up the sous vide machine to help me decrystallize a few bottles of honey.
The duller looking bottles are the crystallized 'before' honey, the more transparent bottlers are 'after' ~24 hours being gently heated.
A tattoo on the upper arm/shoulder of a person recovering from rotator cuff surgery, with visible surgical incision marks nearby. The tattoo depicts a sacred heart design — a red heart with a radiating sunburst border in blue and teal, wings on either side, and a golden flame rising from the top. The style blends traditional tattoo linework with loose watercolor washes in red, teal, yellow, and pink. A small script tattoo is partially visible on the chest.
Shoulder update: Bandages came off Sunday, three days post surgery.
Four small incisions only. Seems like they are closed with cyanoacrylate (crazy glue).
Not in much pain since the procedure was less invasive than expected.
Still using the sling to avoid using my arm and risking a setback.
War does not solve problems.
It is the most profound form of human failure.
Earthset from Artemis II. I am overcome.

A strong technical discussion of the fundamental agentic risks and touching on the other critical risk of supply chain attacks.

Adding an Ikea smart button to a smart home system is not for mortals.
Matter & Thread have a long, long way to go.
Are there any high quality external cameras on Orion, or just the ones the astronauts use inside?

Welcome to the beek team!
Alt text: A person wearing a gray t-shirt with their right arm secured in a black shoulder sling (labeled “Breg SlingShot”), positioned across the chest with a strap over the opposite shoulder. A blue ice pack is visible inside the sling at the shoulder. A lamp and small side table with water bottles are visible in the background.
Had to rotator cuff surgery yesterday. This is my 4th time, 2nd for the left shoulder.
Good news is they went in expecting a possible torn rotator cuff tendon based on MRI, but found only fraying and inflammation instead. They cleaned everything up arthroscopically.
Hail science and medicine!
Every single human alive or has ever lived, besides the four astronauts, is in this image.

MoCA score is clearly well below 25.
Good job making sure the spice didn't go to waste.
Why can’t there be an Artemis launch feed without commentary?
A black Logitech G13 gaming keypad with LCD display and thumb joystick sits on a wooden desk alongside gaming peripherals including a keyboard, mouse pad, and purple storage basket.
Pulled my 15+ year old Logitech G13 out of the closet to let me game with one arm in a sling. Took a bit of driver install magic to make it work.
An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Turns out there's a BEE MUSEUM in Burbank. A legit beekeeper opened a clothing shop and decided to fill half the store with bee facts and figures, jewelry, and more. Walked with some honey made by bees working on Burbank flowers so you know it'll be sweeeeet.
