I'm reaching the point where googling "Synonyms for XXX" does not help me as much as I expect it to. Does anyone have any good academic thesaurus recommendations (online or print?). The several I've tried are generally unruly or elementary
Less than 20 minutes in and we have a critique of AI (which surprisingly is unbridgeable and unsurprisingly allied to big chocolate)
Watching the 1971 Willy Wonka for (I think) the first time and in the first 10 minutes it’s as entertaining as (and more clever than) the entire 2023 film

This sounds somewhat like work @abigailmodaff.bsky.social presented recently about the Pioneers: jwa.org/encyclopedia...
Maybe there’s a point of connection, if you haven’t connected already.
The recording was really well done! And I loved your scholarship.
Holiday travel means I finally got around to listening to @nataliapetrzela.bsky.social ’s Fit Nation and it was everything I hoped it would be. Really well done. Now just to find unsuspecting people to recommend it to . . .
Sitting in a cafe in Vermont (❤️) while one employee has spent the last 15 minutes desperately trying to learn how Sudoku works and it’s heartwarming
Santa’s Helpers??!! I think you mean Subordinate Clauses
Just submitted grades which means I'm finally done with a very long semester. Celebrating the end of my first term teaching too :) There were some ups and downs but we got through and they learned some German even!

For those who read more than I do, how do you fit all your reading into a day/week?

Does anyone know of good analyses or orientations for Andreas Maier's Ortsumgehung cycle (especially Die Universität)?
The Worm and The Cheese by Carlo Ginzburg is a relatively easy and very interesting read about medieval Italy and I always like The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Kuhn, but I’m not sure if either are what she’s looking for
😢❤️ wishing you the best
So I offered to let my German 101 students repeat any daily homework assignment for full credit. Life is busy, some of them missed a couple, and I don't think that should be a penalty on their permanent transcript. But now it's grading crunch time.
Question: Progressive grading or rookie mistake?
Leaving Denver today and everyone is smiles. Security using everyone’s names and giving tips for the fastest lines. And on one of the busiest travels weeks of the year. 😊
What’s especially dangerous, in my view, is the sense that people who are moderate—or who are willing to care about another’s personhood, despite political differences—aren’t “left enough.” They might not share your views, but they’re the ones who can help the left influence the right
What could it be about studying the past that make politicians uncomfortable … 🤔
Counterpoint: is it not a salient similarity that Bernie and Trump followers are attracted to ideas (importantly different!) that challenge a perceived status quo? Indicating not a similarity between the figures but a possible pattern within the us electorate
I find it fascinating that Musk’s Twitter somehow thinks I’m the target audience for both Marx jokes and DeSantis ads?
No! After all that historical research that went into it? What a shame
Of all the improvements here compared to the other site, links opening in the native browser might be the best 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Lovely! I was gonna say—I’m west of Denver this week and there’s a bit less snow here than there. Views like these don’t get old
Gorgeous! Which lake is it? If you don’t mind my asking
