📊 Billions of people depend on synthetic fertilizers. Track how they're produced, traded, and used.

Fertilizers have played an essential role in feeding a growing global population. It's estimated that just under half of the people alive today are dependent on synthetic fertilizers.

Digitally native species are a necessary shift in taxonomic practice Nature Reviews Biodiversity, Published online: 07 April 2026; doi:10.1038/s44358-026-00156-yBiodiversity science laments how little is known about the planet’s biodiversity, yet routinely discards much of the taxonomic evidence generated during species description. Digitally native species conceived and maintained in machine-actionable environments can both address shortcomings and broaden participation in taxonomy.

6/ I think saying ‘our gardens are bigger than all our national nature reserves’ is misleading because it individualises the problem.

Nature-friendly gardening is great, but political action is more important, & we really need the Government to create more nature reserves!

Organ‐specific terpenoid responses in Tanacetum vulgare are chemotype‐dependent Common tansy varieties defend differently: some boost root chemicals against soil pests, while others release stronger leaf scents against aphids.

This paper provides a phytochemical framework for understanding above- versus belowground herbivore interactions.

The thermophilisation rate of plant communities in response to global warming is 5 times faster on alpine summits than in forests or grasslands across 🇪🇺

This finding corroborates former findings on the greater likelihood for upslope than poleward range shifts of plants 🌳🌲☘️🌾🪻🌼
