2025 Politico headline: Trump on Texas redistricting: ‘We are entitled to 5 more seats’
John Gramlich skeet quoting Trump in NYT today: Trump: “I don’t know if you know what gerrymandering is, but it’s not good.”

dems need to pitch all of this––energy independence, international cooperation, rebuilding humane immigration––as *patriotic duties*
Say what you will about the dotcom bubble, at least the CEO of Pets dot com didn’t glaze the Third Reich.
Has there been literally any press about Dundon that makes him seem like a good guy or even just a jerk who at least could be a thoughtful steward of this franchise? All we’ve heard is how eager he is to fire and replace people and extract as much out of everyone he interacts with as possible
A vibrant garden path filled with tall sunflowers leads to a house, while a child plays with a toy and figures in white stroll nearby.
Monet hired six gardeners, diverted a stream, and spent 43 years building a garden in Giverny.
Why would a painter spend half his life on one landscape? The answer changed art forever. 🧵👇 #artbots #monet
Is it a healthy coping strategy to constantly mutter “two new states, reform the court, overturn citizens united” like you’re Arya Stark?
It’s so important to know your bollard history.

"The public doesn't know what the government does" discourse always strikes a nerve. Yeah, man. That's not an accident. It's by design.
There are a bunch of products trained on just scholarly literature sources: Scite, Ellicit, and Consensus are three I’m aware of.
Not all AI-assisted coding is vibe coding. A lot is more like Grammarly for programming language syntax, which can provide a huge speed boost, especially for occasional and/or polyglot programmers.
the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?
This is in my OnlyPosts feed just a handful of posts above yours

Developers aren’t going to build where there is no market, so what’s the harm in making it statewide?
Looks like Belleville has a ~7% rental vacancy rate and ~12% overall vacancy rate, which means you have nothing to worry about at the moment. Worry when those numbers fall below 5%.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

50 years later, I still don't think most people understand what Steve Jobs was actually up to:
he wanted to sell people a more powerful version of themselves, riding the bare edge of Moore's Law to do it
If only the press could cover Trump like they covered Biden’s bitey dog.
A drop of good news!
We have an apparent cure for most people with pancreatic cancer—a profoundly swift, deadly cancer—and the position of the U.S. government is that it should be banned. This is real fall-of-empire stuff.
So many are perfect examples of the Benign Violation Theory in action.

“Finest Worksong” was released as a single in the UK on April 18, 1988. The video was directed by our very own @michaelstipe.bsky.social
Can confirm. I was in Fort Wayne, IN visiting family in April 2024 and the GOP primary commercials airing there at that time were appallingly fascist and very pro-Trump.
Anyone who thinks "we need to impeach Trump in order to force Republicans to defend his record in public" should try visiting a Red State and watching GOP primary commercials.
Fun fact: they passed it because a DC video store leaked Robert Bork’s video rental history to a local paper during his Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
Trump: WE HAVE DEAL!
Markets: HOORAY!!
Iran: We don't.
Trump: THE STRAIT IS OPEN FOR ALL!!
Markets: ALL RIGHT, LFG!!
Iran: It is not.
Trump: WE'RE GETTING ALONG GREAT WITH IRAN!!
Markets: OH MY GOD AWESOME!!
Iran: The fuck is wrong with you?

Last year, Patrick Cone sent me these photos—part of a series taken at the start of activity.
Cone was, at one point, flying in a Lama geophysical helicopter for the Department of Energy, equipped with a magnetometer and gamma ray spectrometer. High radon readings.
