I'm R3D, but you say it like "red". Your resident millennial artist with a fixation for Y2K Futurism, Sonic T. Hedgehog, sneakers, and several other things that go over the character limit. Get at me.
Sonic Adventure 2
Everything about Episode 1 was absolutely stupid and made no sense and now it's actually happening
>unarmed pleasure vessel inexplicably capable of running a blockade
What did he know?
Whether or not he was a good or bad actor isn’t really the point. They got a guy to do a line read with the expressed purpose of mocking him. There’s tons of South Asian actors in the states, they made a conscious decision to recruit someone that was culturally unaware.
This is what fighting back Desi / South Asian racism feels like lol.
Honestly the Smiling Friends Friendbot bit is such a good illustration of what makes Indian racism frustrating to discuss. The right love it because they relish in having ’permission’ to dehumanize people they hate and the left will literally intellectualize and rationalize it. It’s so annoying.
Wow Smiling Friends had a racist joke in it, I'm so shocked.
animated adaptations based on niche (at the time) comics my beloved
No you don’t understand it was actually a brilliant satire please don’t criticize my favorite internet artist
People will legit look you in the eyes and tell you that the former is far more racially insensitive than the latter
I'm open for commissions! Starting from €20: pan-tastique.com/commissions
*Are not in and of themselves racism*
“Erm but he agreed to it 😏” this is like telling a friend to say a slur in a foreign language, without telling them what it means lol. If your telling someone to do something with the expectation that they are not culturally aware of what they’re doing, then yes, it makes you a dickhead.
Leveraging your financial position over someone in order to use them as brownface is not an intelligent materialist analysis, it’s being a fucking asshole. So is taking advantage of their lack of global cultural knowledge and awareness.

Agreed. It has lots of good individual moments for me. It’s just a pain to read through.
Proximal association to popular pop culture depictions of religious iconography and chattel slavery are not in and of themselves not racism. But explicitly tying a South Asian face to contemptible behavior for the purpose of justifying mocking them is.
Alastor is never demeaned for his race. None of the Hellaverse cast are. He’s always portrayed as this powerful, competent, resourceful, cunning, seductive trickster who can solve any threat that comes his way. He’s the ‘Faust‘ who was able to trick the Devil and get away with it.
The lighting here is exceptional!
Smiling Friends last episode unfortunately :/
He’s very clearly inspired by outsider Anti-Heroes like Heathcliff, who was famously described as a lascar, and a gypsy, terms used to describe South Asian sailors and vagabonds in the Victorian era. Jokingly, by his own words, his father was a Chinese Emperor and his mother an Indian Queen.
The amount of anger I‘ve seen directed towards Alastor is genuinely baffling, because they legit act like he’s exactly like the latter. Like he’s somehow dehumanizing black people and legitimizing anti-blackness. When in reality, he’s a POC Anti-Hero in the vein of Captain Nemo and Heathcliff.
Alastor is an Anti-Hero, a Creole Sorcerer who uses the power of his ancestors to emancipate himself from any system that dares to subjugate him.
The other is a racial caricature explicitly meant to mock, humiliate, and belittle a demographic of people.

Oh boy I love Smiling Friends fans so much ☺️
