I got study notes to become a citizen in 2015, and have to say this is the part that gave me the most trouble. I used to read it and wonder what it was, because having lived here for 25 years I did not know what it was. Now I finally know. It's blank checks and bank balances . . .

The poor girl was only trying to find the right man; she just happened to search in some pretty peculiar places. Her affair with Brian Aldridge has to be an all-time low. There’s a slim and very funny volume of poetry published, by a lady called Barbara Williams, called Ambridge Exposed. It takes a hilarious and irreverent look at some of our favourite characters, and includes The Ballad Of Caroline Bone. It enumerates her various affairs and adds some more for good measure. Most unkind!

Licorice bootlaces

Lynda was recruiting for Maurice for the panto. He was in a nativity and had been promised some of the licquorice shoe laces if he got it right. He had one of my favourite lines, "And I forgot the second Behold because Mary Norton stuck her tongue out at me. Bang went the bootlaces."
