It's also the reason why teacher leave - myself included.

How did we get here? Gove, academisation, profiteering, gaslighting, changes which have led to initial teacher training focusing less on theory and more on how to 'deliver' rather than 'teach' a lesson. How will it all end up I wonder?

The word 'play' in many KS1 settings is viewed with similar disdain. There's little surprise that many children express behavioral issues, with lessons comprised of bums on seats and staring at a PowerPoint for most of their day. So many children disengaged from such an early age.

So the time has come to leave teaching. The landscape now is so unrecognisable to the one I joined 28 years ago. Child development was always at the core of my practice and yet now anyone who refers to it, appears to be regarded as a relic from the past.

Something is really bothering me with CPD. During my training in the 90s and for the first few yrs of my career, there was a sharp focus on understanding child development. This has all but disappeared from the CPD landscape.

So much for the empty words on focusing on improving pupil/staff well being and on retention. Awful proposals which will lead to even more accountability measures and anxiety for all involved.
