I can definitively say: No, a potential GOP reaction did not for one second figure in our decision to make this trip via e-bike.

Minnesota lawmaker Katie Jones rode in a cargo e-bike to the hospital for her baby's birth. Her husband, Peter Schmitt, pedaled the two miles there.

On the return journey, their son Hans – all 8 pounds and 1 ounce of him – was bundled up and handled it just fine, Jones said.

Cannot recommend the Cargo Bike Library enough!!! It was so great to be able to try out a bike for several days to see if it works for us. Even though the Bunch wasn’t quite the right fit for us, it did allow me to get my mother in a bike for the first time in 60 years, which was awesome.

We were pretty concerned about this, as we had heard similar stories. Instead, the doctors and nurses were super inquisitive and supportive!!! The wanted to talk logistics, see photos, etc. Less comfortable ride home for Katie, especially with our luggage also fitting in, but we made it work!

It has been a busy week in our household! Katie was biking herself up until the day before her appointment. I was happy to be able to pilot her and our little Hansi both ways. We have also taken him on the bus for a few follow up appointments. I love living in a city and having options!

This is our first kid so you’ve definitely got us beat, but she is still biking at 37.5 weeks and biked to this event. I will be biking her to the hospital to give birth whenever that happens!

I’m working my way through Discworld and this has been so irritating. Used to be able to get the basic paperback for $8-9 and I’m now stuck with the trade ones for $16.

One ridiculous moment that I forgot: Rucker used his resolution discussion time to direct shit on Olsen and say that Olsen disenfranchised and marginalized him. And then said that Olsen’s agenda and resolution were redlining and segregating the north side. It was sad.

The resolution technically doesn’t move the Mall plan forward, but rather it directs staff to try to coordinate with Met Council on what is possible to reincorporate. TBD on the outcome.

This saga is so old that commenters tried to say it happened during Covid and I had to point out that only the master plan was passed in early Covid (fall 2020), while the man CAC work and engagement happened in 2018-2019.

Anyway, tons of disingenuous arguments across the board. Credit to Abene and Rucker for a good strategy that thankfully didn’t work out. Credit to the rest of the park board for not being bullied and taking rational, incremental, and fiscally responsible steps.

Garcia asked a good question to Rucker on whether this would be any different to safety from an already approved event closure. Rucker indicated it would be worse bc they might not have keys to the gate or the locks might change. (This would be such an easy problem to solve but he lacks imagination)

Garcia tried to calm the room down and recenter and Flowers was having none of it. Just rant after rant about how open parkways are redlining, full segregation measures stopping the black community from using the park. Some comments spilled into traffic concerns and needing a thoroughfare

The riled up crowd just kept calling Olsen racist and saying only the whites want open parkways. They did turn on Garcia and Moran at one point and seems to infer that they had betrayed the immigrant community? Frederick was accused of showing acted rage (as in she is an actress, I guess?)

Abene and Rucker were smart to make their amendments for each resolution be similar (waste time and have a CAC) so commenters could shoehorn comments to address both. There was clearly 0 understanding that the main thing about resolution was to purchase gates for efficiency and get public feedback

I attended the meeting to speak in support of the mall. Can confirm it was a very unruly meeting. Erlandson wasn’t there but his spirit was. Al Flowers was a menace and should had been removed after getting in Chris Meyers’ face.

If only the vast resources sitting in RTO queues were allowed to actually move forward and come online…
