On the 19th anniversary of the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech, U.S. Senators @kaine.senate.gov and @markwarner.bsky.social introduced the “Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act,” to enact commonsense gun violence prevention measures in Virginia at the federal level. Read on:

We are heartbroken beyond words by the passing of our beloved daughter, Madison, 36, after a decades-long battle with juvenile diabetes and other health issues. She filled our lives with love and laughter, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void. We are grateful for the loving support of friends and family during this difficult time and ask for privacy as we navigate this profound loss.
We're needled over and over about gun rights, that what we want is unconstitutional or judiciable. These children had rights, too, and like the tens of thousands of gun violence victims per year, they lost their rights — to be safe, to live in peace, *to grow up* — forever.
Horrifying news out of Louisiana. I'm furious and heartbroken for this family and for Shreveport. More people carrying more guns in more places wouldn't have saved these children. 1/2
Trump’s pardons of white-collar criminals are draining money from a fund that helps victims of violent crime.
At least $113 million in forgiven penalties would have gone into the Crime Victims Fund absent a Trump pardon, a Trace analysis found.

This is an incredibly dangerous and radical policy decision reflects the Trump Administration’s allegiance with gun sellers rather than to the safety of the public. If not reversed, it will facilitate illegal gun trafficking that will be more guns in the hands of dangerous individuals.
Dr. Cerina Wanzer Fairfax was a devoted mother and dentist whose life was tragically cut short because guns make domestic violence more deadly.
My heart breaks for her family, especially her two teenage children –– who now have to navigate a world without their mother. etwn.us/3QgSwvl
On this day in 2007, a student armed with two semi-automatic pistols and high-capacity magazines opened fire on Virginia Tech’s campus. Twenty-seven students and five faculty members were shot and killed, and 17 other people were wounded. It is the deadliest school shooting in modern US history.

I was thrilled to see my friend Governor @abigailspanberger.com yesterday in Richmond and congratulate her on getting key gun safety laws across the finish line.
On Capitol Hill today, our volunteers showed up at a Senate hearing as leaders of gun extremist groups argued for rolling back life-saving gun safety laws.
Whenever our progress is threatened, we are in the room.

Today is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Over 80 years later, the global Jewish population has still not returned to pre-Holocaust numbers. Entire communities, families, and generations were lost.
We remember them. And we refuse to forget.

VICTORY! Among the gun violence prevention bills signed tonight, Gov. Spanberger signed legislation prohibiting firearms in campus buildings. My "why" for joining the moment was the Va Tech shooting, nearly 19 years ago to the day, so this one is personal. lis.virginia.gov/bill-details...

“Studies have shown that assault weapons make mass violence more deadly, and that places where these bans have been in place, including the federal one for a period of ten years, did reduce mass shootings and fatalities that come from that.” - Mike Fox, Virginia Moms Demand Action volunteer
They're home!
In Virginia, lawmakers passed a package of more than 20 gun safety bills. It is one of the most comprehensive efforts in the state in recent years. These reforms strengthen background checks, limit access to dangerous weapons, and expand tools for intervention before violence occurs.
BIG WIN: Governor Spanberger signed key gun safety bills into law—banning ghost guns and holding the gun industry accountable for their harmful actions.
This historic progress will help reduce violent crime and keep kids, communities, and law enforcement safe.
As Passover comes to a close, I remember that my family, like so many others, were once wanderers and refugees and found a Promised Land in America. That Promised Land is still worth protecting.
VICTORY! Gov. Spanberger just signed legislation to disarm abusers, ban ghost guns and enact firearm industry accountability. @momsdemandaction.org
Thank you, @slotkin.senate.gov, for showing how it's done. We need to hear this from not just Jewish Democrats but Democrats as a whole. If candidates were accused of taking money from "the Muslim lobby" or "the Arab lobby," that would also warrant pushback.

A GOP state rep says a Muslim immigrant from Bangladesh, and a Jew and grandson of Holocaust survivors who graduated from West Point and served in Iraq and Afghanistan are "non-Virginians." And 2A is still the law of the land, bro.
VICTORY! Gov. Spanberger just signed legislation requiring school boards to annually notify parents about the importance of secure firearm storage. These bills were vetoed the past two years. lis.virginia.gov/bill-details...
