Be ready to be shocked and offended at university, students told Guidance has been published by the Office for Students on new free speech rules coming into force this year.

oh, are they going to run a class on how UK imperialism is directly responsible for basically every crisis happening in 21st century middle east

Watching Palantir do Sephiroth posting about multiculturalism and I would like to remind everyone that they were doing corporate fake woke shit just like every other company.

Negative examples? Penalize the model for how likely that it produces text that sounds like a failed startup?

Statistically in one of the last GDC industry polls there were like six white women with 20+ year long careers, 1-2 Asian women, and ZERO black and Latina women with that kind of career tail length.

Man it sucks to be an AI researcher in a time where the concept of AI has been poisoned by billionaires seeking to destroy livelihoods in the name of more wealth capture.

Viv: An Engine for Emergent Narrative Viv is an engine for emergent narrative.

incredibly sickos mode reading this documentation viv.sifty.studio
(to be more specific: it's a runtime & editor by James Ryan for doing complicated causality and knowledge modelling for NPCs in videogames. if you've heard of the term "story sifting" you will be excited)

I think certainly for Federal. Maybe for state? Probably not for city (unless its one of the major outliers, NY, LA, etc)

AOC, Pritzker, and Jamelle Bouie are progressive haters. We love them and have no reason to suspect they’ll betray their principles.

Porter, Platner, and Fetterman are assholes. We can see how all that has turned out.

Unfortunately Newsom is both, which is why predicting his behavior is difficult.

"keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it’s immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like “yeah so this is going to happen to the internet” and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don’t even get paid for it"

how adults colonize every third space and remove young people — including the Internet

The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Clockwise from top left:
1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.”

2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”.

3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.”

4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

Hmm if only US politicians ran on a similar promise. Maybe one that likens the current situation to a "swamp" and promises to "drain" it. Yes I suppose that is a winning slogan that can be voted on without judgment. Why hasn't anyone thought of that

Most Arcades Feel Like Total Scams These Days When did we turn arcades into mini versions of Las Vegas?

When did arcades turn into mini versions of Las Vegas? They're the closest young children can engage in our society’s ever-expanding gambling complex. Games your children are certain to lose. They are scams. My latest at @crossplayblog.bsky.social www.crossplay.news/p/most-arcad...

You can fume at people on bluesky for being disillusioned with these guys but at some point you have to admit it's their behavior that causes poll results like this. The public correctly recognizes them as weenies

Setting aside all other questions about impeachment, the idea that trying it against a president everybody hates would be a political *loser* for the opposition party is preposterous. Just say you don't want to work! It's more relatable

“Why aren’t college students protesting” stories are almost always wrong (they are protesting), omit crucial context (they were brutally punished for protesting before), and somehow suggest that 19 yr olds have more moral responsibility than elected officials three times their age

not bringing mara jade into new star wars canon is such a wild fumble. fandom stuff is so notoriously fraught and yet somehow in the era of the eu everyone just agreed "yes luke needs a badass redheaded wife if we're going to get anywhere with this"

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.
