A picture of a rather dilapidated copy of "The picture of Dorian Gray" There is visible water damage to the cover and the plastic cover is yellowing. Obviously, not evident from the picture but there is a truly foul musty smell emanating from it!

Last week, a gentleman returned this rather dilapidated copy of this famous book to us after 50 years. He had found it in his attic!
Presumably this means there is a pristine copy somewhere in our libraries....

The road trip with your best friends vibes of Artemis 2 are perfection. Inject them straight into my veins.

I still need transition straps where we ripped out the Worst Carpet Ever, though, so this game continues tomorrow when the hardware store reopens.

New Old House Problems: just broke drill bits 2 and 3 in the joists and hardwood floors. Cheap starter tool sets are not meant for old growth materials. OK, house. I respect your game.

Belief in & support for vaccines is normal.

“But that reality is not immune to the stories we tell about it… [Bad polls] change what clinicians say in the exam room, the decisions policymakers & leaders make, and ultimately become a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

Yup and even if the local Catholic hospital isn't your only option, if it's where an ambulance will take you, it is still your problem!

"The University of California system, the California State system, the City University of New York — these are the institutions actually educating America’s workforce, actually moving first-generation students into the middle class, actually delivering on higher education’s democratic promise."

Good morning Bluesky!
There is Massive Attack x Tom Waits this morning!

It is exactly what is on the tin.
It is also, of course, very, very good.

Both my 20 year old Staub enamelware and the 5 year old fancy patterned piece I bought fam for a housewarming are still in great shape so I think they still pass the Vimes test without a Branding markup.

this is why the reddit BuyItForLife community exists, and also, it’s really annoying that I now have to do a ton of involved research to avoid buying crap whenever I need new boots or an appliance.

Artemis 2 was the furthest human voyage from Earth. Per the final JPL Horizons trajectory I estimate the max distance from the geocenter was 413145 km at 2304 UTC Apr 6 (about 4 km less and 1 min later than PAO's report at the time). (1 / n ).....

I'm not paying for NYT, can someone tell me if it mentions the flag has been flown the whole time, minus a brief delay to fetch bolt cutters for a lock on the fence?

Today's Chaos Gardening is getting the potted lemon tree outside from the winter grow space, preferably without tipping it over or getting stabbed. And the fig tree, which will at least not stab anyone. By the end of the year, we should have three fruit trees going, only one of which attacks.

I poked around on Google maps and I don't think there is another Apple store within 20 miles, in entirely different cities. That place anchors one of the only still living malls i know.

As far as I know there is literally no reason for this, it is just an incredibly lucky coincidence that we get to enjoy for free

In case you were wondering about the vibe in space science lately, experiencing both halves of a Star Trek evil mirror universe episode at the same time is physically nauseating.

I think we could all do with some 400-year-old flowering ume (flowering Japanese sour plum-apricot) bonsai in our lives.

This is the 75th anniversary Nagahama Bonbai (ume bonsai) Exhibition.

And this incredible 400-year-old tree is Furo, meaning Eternal Youth.
