The burdens of office Harrassing MPs deters many sane people from entering politics. What can be done about this?

New substack: our political culture deters sane people from becoming MPs. Tackling this requires radical change: chrisdillow.substack.com/p/the-burden...

My advise would be to plan your Summer staycations.

The extent to which social media platforms made the experience demonstrably worse over the period in question is a truly fascinating phenomenon. Only some of it was the Musk fash madness. Lots of it was just financial decisions dominating UX considerations.

true story: some Brit wealth managers, clients of whom are rich Brits, told me they keep getting calls saying 'help! i just read in [a newspaper that's not the FT] that we're about to default on our gilts and go to the IMF! what should I do?'
and they say 'er, read another newspaper?'

Still of the view that the biggest risk in this whole mess is widespread hunger in poorer countries leading to political instability.

Davros.

Davros.

Nigel Farage.

Nigel Farage.

A megalomaniac who believes that he can become the supreme being and ruler of the Universe. And Davros.

One thing people have a lot of experience of, and hate, is bosses who don’t want to hear staff warnings but then blame them when it goes wrong. So Starmer will sink lower.

All leaders bar Starmer saw a slight bump in approvals this week. The PM remains at -43, Polanski is at -17, Farage -16, meanwhile Badenoch is at -10 pipped for the first time in a few weeks for least disapproved of by Davey at -9.

Wait a minute, no one said you’d get pink, that’s for a trial much further down the road. Some people demand too much. 😄

Us: Women's rugby is under invested in
Women are being sexually investigated due to anti-trans hatred
Women are treated like second class in boys clubs
Women are in danger in male dominated environments

World rugby: Here, have an ickle ball. Maybe we'll make it pink.

Then there is probably a lot that was different to the 80s experienced by most of us on here.

Strip searching children should just stop.

The new phone ban will just increase the excuses for police and teachers to do this.

So I guess Lions tours aren’t going away.

I am not a big enough live music fan, I mostly love the recorded stuff, but also I saw everyone I needed to see.

Miles Davis is perhaps the one I missed in the 80s but would wish for a decade earlier, also Hendrix from another decade.

There are far larger issues in women’s rugby yet WR continue with the dainty lady ball agenda.

Not a lot apart from my youthful body, which it turns out was quite useful to have and a lot less painful to manage.

But only one Labour PM was successful enough to fire him twice.

Bob Mortimer on Would I Lie To You meme. Caption reads Once, while aiming for poorly defined regime change in another country, left it without a clear leadership structure that I could then negotiate with. in response my opponents closed a major shipping artery and i then blockaded it myself to get them to open it, while agreeing to a ceasefire i then kept extending, despite repeated threats, because it wasn't clear who i should negotiate with (see above)

Thank you for your attention to this matter

I always get a little sad when I visit cities and see historic buildings with the names of barristers’ chambers carved into stone edifices, but the city no longer either has a crown court nor a local Bar.

I doubt any white politician [Starmer?! Cooper?!] would joke about deporting Badenoch [or Mahmood] even if threw in Davey, Polanski /Farage.

So this does look like an example not so much of saying "don't deny me a voice as a minority" as feeling [more?] permission to do taser & deportation jokes
