A dense starfield fills the entire frame with an even denser central cluster of stars.

Would have been especially cool if there were actually 2 stars at that location.

I had to stare at it a moment to figure out if it was a little streak of cloud catching the last sunlight -- or the moon.

Thanks! Especially challenging to get that much time with winter's cloudy/rainy weather! 16 arcminutes is roughly half the width of the full moon, so this nebula is a huge, beautiful flower-like ghost.

Me, if I was a Lego figurine, battling a flying lion with a dagger and an axe.
Google photos auto-created an album of "photos of me" over the years.... and included this particular one π
Fortunately, my Lego doppelganger is incapable of implicating me in any real-world mischief!

Mathematicians find one pi formula to rule them all
A mixture of AI and algorithms uncovered a hidden structure spanning 2,000 years of equations for pi
Happy Ο Day! To prep, feast on this article on a brand new discovery for the ancient constant. My latest slice for SciAm! It's irrationally enjoyable... π₯§

Originally, it was a mix of practicality (knowing for certain a few digits of pi for engineering purposes) but also because ancient Greece was in its golden age 2,000 years ago, when it was an intellectual hub. The Greek philosophers/mathematicians loved geometry which pi directly comes from.

Nebulous blue gas surrounded by red gas against a sea of stars. Looks a bit like a galactic flower.

Portrait of Γmile du ChΓ’telet by Maurice Quentin de la Tour
For #WomensHistoryMonth: Let us celebrate the life and accomplishments of French mathematician and physicist Γmilie du ChΓ’telet (1706-1749). She spread the then-new ideas of Isaac Newton on the Continent, and played a key role in developing the idea of energy conservation. π’βοΈπ§ͺ #WomenInSTEM π§΅1/7

My grandfather fixed radios on the Black side of town. White-owned repair shops also brought him radios they couldn't fix. He made enough money to open a few grocery stores as a "retirement business".
