Twenty years ago today, I released my first solo work, I know you’re my voicemails. Written and recorded around April 20th, 2006, in Mobile, Alabama, under the name thruoutin, using GarageBand, Ableton Live 6, and a Motorola Razr.

Today is the 10-year anniversary of the release of Fine Valley Pass. Built from field recordings captured in Jiayuguan, Gansu (2013) and ambient soundscapes, this EP was an early attempt to translate place into sound.

My first encounter with the French photographer Aurelien Foucault was on this night in 2012 at the Old What Bar, a part of Beijing’s underground music history. The bands were Li Dong and Ancient Dog/Secret Luke Band, and myself.
