The legend of the mermaid and her mortal lover Part I In the vast depths of the ocean, beyond human perception, there were mermaids, creatures whose bodies were covered with pearl dust and whose voices sang the ancient hymns of dead empires buried beneath the waves with their arrogance and dark designs. Their songs carried knowledge of the fate of the sunny lands, of the darkness that would follow the sunset, and of the great dragon, the progenitor of all things, the father and mother of the oceans and the luminaries. Mermaids possessed wisdom beyond the reach of mortals, and in their underwater world reigned joy and harmony. Coral palaces, glittering like silver, served as their abode. In these places, eternal music washed the boundaries of the world like serene streams of stardust. But the day of fulfilment of the ancient prophecy was at hand, when the great dragon would spread its wings, heralding the end of the age of song and happiness.
