I tried a bunch of pellets, at a bunch of price points, and found that my palate couldn’t tell much of a difference between the Kirkland Signature blend and premium stuff that I paid 4x for. But, don’t skimp and get cheap pellets

I do a lot of pork butts, which are hard to mess up as long as you have a good thermometer and patience. Do a lot of chicken too. Brisket is the only thing I still haven’t gotten quite right.

I mostly got books from the library and then the smoking subreddit. Project Smoke was a solid book. A lot of it is just trying different runs and methods until you find what you like.

Good call, pellet is the way to go. Pretty much set it and forget it, but great flavor and you don’t have to sit and manage it like an offset.

I got started with Masterbilt electric smoker and then moved up to a Recteq pellet smoker 3-4 years ago. I used it a ton.

What kind did you go with?
