Male gatekeeping: Study (N=887) finds that although men evaluators favored female over male candidates, they preferred women who reinforced the status quo over those who advocated equality. Female evaluators showed no such preferences. bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

‘Microshifting’ puts a new spin on 9-to-5 schedules A new way of scheduling work time is remaking the typical nine-to-five routine. “Microshifting” is a trend that involves tackling job duties in short, productive bursts instead of a single stretch.

Microshifting: Fitting paid labor around and between non-work responsibilities and priorities. Performance is judged by output instead of hours logged behind a screen. Job duties are tackled in short, productive bursts instead of a single 9 to 5 stretch.

Stopping gas dictating UK energy price could cut bills by £200, thinktank says — The Guardian Iran war has increased gas price, with effects on UK energy bills that could be avoided, Common Wealth says

The flip side is that big business will pick up the bill since they are the biggest users of gas and this is why this much needed reform was stalled for years first by the Tories and now by Labour.

I worked for the energy industry for 4 years and you don't need to cap prices or raise taxes to lower the bills. All you need is energy markets reform that will decouple gas from the general market. This will lower the bills of 90% of consumers instantly.

Women are less likely to apply for jobs with a huge pay range. Here's what companies can do about it New research out of Cornell University indicates that pay transparency laws have not been as effective as intended—in part because many employers fail to truly comply with them.

Research shows women are less likely to apply for jobs with huge salary ranges. Women applied just as often as men to job ads which clarified how pay is determined, even with the wider pay ranges. There was also no gap in negotiation behavior.

Layoffs or an AI pivot? It's hard to tell the difference now Companies are cleansing their layoff announcements with a big dose of AI strategy talk. Cutting jobs this way is a convenient bit of corporate magic.

Reeves reaffirms commitment to end windfall tax in talks with North Sea bosses The Chancellor met figures from BP, TotalEnergies and Serica in Downing Street.

I'm dismayed by rumours govt may scrap the windfall tax on oil and gas giants

With energy bills still driving cost of living pressures, it's senseless to cut taxes for highly profitable polluters, who already receive £2.7bn per year in tax breaks

Currently helping an elderly family friend figure out if an email is a scam (which it obviously is) and hey, people who make mobile email apps, it's a dark pattern to not make the email address of the sender visible without needing to click on the little arrow thing.

Just thought you should know.

The myth that women are more naturally empathetic than men Scientific research is up-ending age-old gender stereotypes about empathy – and revealing new ways of thinking about masculinity.

A 2018 study (N=46K) of DNA samples & questionnaires found no genes associated with sex played a role in empathy. Women display more empathy, not because it is innate, but because girls are socialized to act on their emotions & prioritize needs of others. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

AI poses bigger threat in jobs with more women, study finds Workers in clerical and administrative roles could have the most trouble adapting to the impact of AI on jobs, new research shows.

While firms are not replacing significant #'s of workers with AI, occupations at most risk are women-dominated, (court clerks, admin assts, payroll clerks). Of 6M workers who would have hardest time finding a new job due to AI-related job loss, 86% are women. www.cbsnews.com/news/ai-job-...
