For months, I have implored the Albanese Government to back the medical research sector by fully disbursing MRFF funds. You can too -- it's not too late. Join my campaign and tell the our federal government that 'Medical Research Matters' - today www.moniqueryan.com.au/medical_rese...

Medical research delivers almost $4 of economic value for every $1 invested, with clinical trials producing even higher returns. The governement has money put aside for this industry already. That money is sitting unspent in the Future Fund while the sector struggles.
Without immediate government support, 10 of Victoria's 14 medical research institutes will be forced to close within 5 years. This would be a devastating outcome for a sector which has contributed greatly to the health and economic prosperity of this country www.theaustralian.com.au/health/ten-v...
As the govt weighs options to raise revenue, balance the budget & confront the global energy crisis, one solution is staring them in the face: replace the broken PRRT with a fair tax on gas exports. It's long overdue, and has widespread support… www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...
NDIS growth has been driven by structural and legislative failures by past govts which have allowed waste, rorting & inadequate regulation. The system can be reformed humanely & transparently, but we shouldn't be making wholesale cuts unless adequate supports are in place for vulnerable Australians.
Where clinics are also dispensing medication, there is concern about clinical decision-making & commercial incentives. We need better telehealth services reg—an under-regulated part of our health system.
The number of adults being diagnosed with ADHD has risen six-fold since 2017, and increased by almost a third in the last year. This is largely because of the rise of ADHD-specific telehealth clinics providing quick diagnoses, sometimes based on online questionnaires alone…

I’ve asked the govt repeatedly for equitable and uniform vaccine funding & availability, including expanded access to RSV immunisations. It’s great to see them funded for Australians 75+. We still need funded meningococcal B vaccines for all young people. More to do www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...
In 2023, Kooyong voted strongly in favour of a Voice to Parliament. This weekend, I look forward to taking the next step towards justice. I hope you can join me. We’ll be leaving from the steps of the Victorian state parliament at 9am tomorrow - April 19.
The path forward starts with truth. That's why I’m proud to join Trav Lovett as he begins the Melbourne leg of the National Walk for Truth. Justice can’t be accomplished without confronting Australia's historic treatment of First Nations people www.walkfortruth.com/
As usual, @cathywilcox.bsky.social nails it.
If you're looking forward to hearing what Rod has to say but cannot make it along in person, you can join the audience online and tune in. Watch our conversation online from 6:30pm tonight: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWkn...
My statement in response to the LNP immigration policy, announced yesterday.
It’s good to see the Commonwealth Ombudsman step in, but we should never have put so many older Australians through this process. Perhaps if the govt won't respond to a Senate Committee's bipartisan recommendation for an "urgent review" into the algorithm, integrity agencies like the Ombudsman will.
I’ve previously described the govt computerised assessment tool as Robo-Aged Care, an appropriate label when govt prioritises a computer program over people, rejects workers’ input & creates a system where reviews are undertaken by the same tool as the original www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
We've already sold over 250 tickets to this free event, with room for a few more. If you're in Melbourne this week, don't miss out!

GET IN QUICK! I'm looking forward to chatting with Rod Sims about how Australia can prosper as the world slashes emissions. Rod is one of our leading public policy thinkers, and it will be great to discuss how we can become a renewables superpower, strengthen our economy & hit climate our goals.
Partial bans don't work. We need a complete ban on online gambling advertising. That’s what I’m calling for.
It’s estimated that a partial ban would cost the govt $10 million per year to administer - twice the cost of a complete ban, because of administrative complexity - would likely increase ads overall, and would benefit us by $110 million per year *less* than a full ban…
The Albanese Government’s Office of Impact Assessments has assessed the govt’s proposed partial ban on gambling advertising…
The Albanese Government should introduce road user charges at a discounted rate for EVs, thereby establishing a fair tax contribution while continuing to steer Australian motorists to cleaner, cheaper-to-run cars www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/comment/topi...
Now is not the time to power down EV & a road user charge must be approached carefully. It is a fiscal problem to lose up to $15bn in revenue as drivers switch, yet, as the all-treasurers council reported last year, “reforms should be designed to not deter the continued take-up of electric vehicles”
Catherine King says the govt wants to "encourage as much electric vehicle uptake" as possible & acknowledges the govt should enable our EV surge to continue. Great! Accelerating transport electrification is something I have been pushing for over the last three years www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...
Extreme heat needs more attention from the Albanese Government. My proposal to name heatwaves - as we already name cyclones - should be adopted as a prompt for a stronger public health and communications response to dangerous heat www.moniqueryan.com.au/heatwave_pet...
“If it’s already happening now, then what does a future that is two or three degrees warmer hold?” Australian researchers have found that extreme heat mortality is "seriously underreported” www.theguardian.com/environment/...
But we must remember that at its heart are vulnerable people who deserve our support. It’s not a welfare scheme. It’s an invaluable piece of social insurance, like Medicare. It’s there for all Australians.
No-one denies that we need to improve the NDIS. It’s too complex, too easy to rort, and too hard to engage with for those who rely on it. Successive governments have blamed it for their legislative and administrative errors www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...
The Wilton Project will be Australia's largest depot for all-electric trucks. It is encouraging to see the government recognise freight electrification projects as nationally significant, and critical they do everything possible to accelerate transport sector decarbonisation during this fuel crisis.
I was pleased to join Co-CEO Daniel Bleakley in Canberra last week, as the Parliamentary Friends of Electric Vehicles took a close look at a fully-electric prime mover.
