The universe does not need to care for me. And so for it to care about me would mean that I am just as important as it. And that is truly terrifying.

I think it depends on the scale of the meaning. Having meaning on the scale of the universe or the future of mankind or future world history would be absolutely terrifying to know. On the flip side not having meaning to friends, a job, family, or neighbors would be equally terrifying.
