I'll be damned if I let someone suffer from distro decision paralysis on my watch.

"Which beginner distro should I-"

Mint.

"But I heard about-"

Mint.

"Yeah, but I would really like to-"

Mint does that.

"My PC has an Nvidia GPU and-"

Mint has a driver install utility.

"Cinnamon?"

Yep. It's a really nice desktop environment. I have no bad things to say about it."

"Hey, uh... So I set up everything and installed the correct Nvidia drivers and I'm still having issues with gaming for some reason. Is there another distro I can try?"

*sigh* Okay, Gotcha. You'll want to try Bazzite. That's the most user-friendly one that's centered around gaming. If you're more of a power user and don't mind the terminal, EndeavourOS and CachyOS are fantastic, too. All three of them use KDE Plasma, which is basically Cinnamon on steroids. Excellent desktop environment. Can't go wrong with it.

"Thanks! Anything else?"

Nope, that should cover it. Have fun!

...

"Hey, my friend watches Linus Tech Tips, and he told me I should try Pop!OS because-"

NO.

My tech support experience is admittedly limited mostly to helping friends and calling the helpdesk on behalf of coworkers. But I noticed there's a lot of not-so tech literate users out there who know what they're talking about, but lack words to express it. Like, they don't really know *how* their computer works, but they're smart enough to intuit when something is not right. And oftentimes, they get blown off by the support rep when they genuinely need help fixing something that broke on them. And this is doubly true if it's a woman who's calling for help.

Even with as many idiot assholes there are out there, more often than not it pays to respect the average user's intelligence. They're not willfully ignorant, nor are they stupid. They simply struggle to put technological concepts to words. And the willingness to bridge that gap in communication is something that's needs to become more common.

Seriously. If it wasn't for YouTubers putting comprehensive tutorials together, I would have struggled so much more with Linux than I have. Anyone who's learned Linux before the past couple of years knows what it's like to search up a problem and get an Ask Ubuntu page or Reddit thread with a response either A. calling the user an idiot for not knowing something or B. posting incomprehensible walls of code. Hell, the Arch Wiki is a fantastic resource, but it's not comprehensive to someone who only knows how to install software and update their system with apt.

All you need to do is not be a jerk if they're not being a jerk to you.

If you are on the fence about attending FBL, please do register.
The convention is in risk of disappearing, which will be a huge loss for the French community (as it is basically the only French convention were non French or Francophone people were coming)
Reposts are appreciated !

Xenia the fox just woke up, looking groggy. Coffee mug reads "Don't talk to me until I fix this broken Xorg update [Arch Linux logo]", and the oversized t-shirt reads "this cat's name is [bash fork bomb] you should type his name on your linux's terminal (don't do that)"

My Shadow the Hedgehog headcanon is even though he isn't an edgelord like he's often portrayed in fanon, he absolutely loves edgelord shit.

So much that he has a dedicated edgelord room that looks like a Hot Topic circa 2002.

So much that he will scour eBay and flea markets for old juggalo merch.

So much that the Holy Grail of his music collection is an original self-released burned CD of "Please Remain Seeded" from 1999 that he spent years tracking down.

A four-panel comic featuring two fluffy black cats sitting side by side on a soft pink ground with a blue-purple sky.

In the first panel, one cat asks, “What’s your favorite place?”
In the second, the other cat replies, “I don’t think I have one.”
In the third, it continues, “I think I have favorite beings. And places feel nicer when they’re there.”
In the final panel, the first cat looks at the other with heart-shaped eyes, and the second cat says, “Just like this one!”

I really hate posting these kinds of begposts, but this has gotten more critical since I posted it. I currently have -7$ until next month, and I need to feed three people with that.

I truly hate when little Right Wing Hitler youth open their mouths and give opinions in their over sized fake glasses, that they think will make them seem smart ,on things they know nothing about.

But listen to a real farmer rip her apart.
