Note, by saying “stupid” I’m not saying “without dreadful consequences.” Unserious, incompetent, malicious people operating with tremendous power and impunity has given us a situation that is both comically stupid and still horrifyingly dangerous.

Will there be talks, won’t there be talks? Will there be a cease-fire, won’t there be a cease-fire? Is Pakistan preparing for meetings in vain, or not preparing in vain? Ships are stopped or attacked, ships aren’t stopped or attacked. Markets react up, markets react down.
Stupid stupid times.
...and they are almost completely shielded from public scrutiny through copious use of "trade secret exemptions."
You're going to esp want to check this out if you live in a locality that's trying to woo big tech data centers.
Not only do they badly harm the quality of life of those who live near them, localities get virtually nothing in exchange for throwing cash/incentives at these companies. Truly crazy.
Watermark email ad: AI guided by impact: a fireside chat on strategic adoption and change management
You can package it as fireside, oceanside, cityside, all-expenses-paid whatever-side, and I'm still not buying. The new ways they find to extend their slimy inevitability-narrative tentacles into everything is so endlessly pathetic.
tbc, the hadith is about the length of trousers or other leg coverings (they should be above the ankles) not the sockless bit. Salafis (not only, but especially) are very strict about this. One popular Salafi take:
Reminds of this hadith. (Purely coincidental, but still…)
“The Messenger of Allah said, ‘The lower garment of a believer should be half way below the knees. He is guilty of no sin if they are up to the ankles. That which is below the ankles is in the Fire (of Hell)’”
Here’s a must watch, and good to share with family and friends, about the secretive deals made between big tech and state/local governments to build massive, polluting, downright dystopian data center warehouses. Well researched and reported by @businessinsider.com
Was at an event last evening and that seemed to be the style… no socks w/feet direct into the dress shoes and pants just reaching up to but not over the ankles. I work with college students every day and I was not aware (although, to be fair, they don’t dress up for class)
So wait, is the new dress up style for guys to wear slacks which don’t reach all the way to the feet and with no socks on the legs, thus revealing the ankles?
Relatedly, when students write reading responses in my courses, I tell them upfront that it’s kinda a bad look if all their material comes from the first page and a half of, say, a 10 page reading.
Yes, and even more polite to actually have read the whole book before writing the review!
I did look up the Koch fellows just to make sure. Congrats on that by the way!
April 21 marks the 500th year anniversary of the Battle of Panipat, which established the Mughals in northern India.
I'll be marking the occasion by talking about the Mughals at Rutgers-New Brunswick!

This goes extra intensely for academic writing, in my opinion. If you're using gAI to think (because that is what writing is) why should anyone read it? And sending AI generated writing off for peer review is just...
“For Black Catholics, Pope Leo’s visit to the Muxima shrine is an important moment of healing,” said Anthea Butler, senior fellow at the Koch Center, Oxford University.
Good to see @antheabutler.bsky.social quoted in this informative @apnews.com piece.
Very typical everywhere it seems
Haha yeah I've followed for a long time in fact!
The “typical Christian” today is not a white euro(-american) but a (poor) Nigerian woman. That’s the future of global Xnity as the Pope knows. The shadow side of course is the infiltration of health/wealth/prosperity preaching in Africa & the signif popularity of maga in some places/churches 3/
Of course the Pope is sounding themes of justice for the poor/oppressed, & calling out the global system and its staggering inequalities while in Africa. That’s how many African theologians & Xns in general talk. For African Xns, this has nothing to do with western culture wars, but is just Xnity 2/
It’s fitting that I start unit on religion in Africa this week while the Pope is there. Since the start of decolonization (a process that’s obviously still ongoing!) Christianities of all varieties - typically both thoroughly liberationist & supernaturalist in style - have surged in Africa. 1/
Actually covering and explaining policy intelligently rather than treating political coverage like sports coverage would also help.
The military spokesperson is probably lying but it's not great when this guy has a greater chance of being disciplined for breaking a statue than he would for killing a civilian.
Sign over I 94 as you enter Michigan saying welcome to pure Michigan. Signed to the right says Welcome Center 3/4 mile.
The approach
Another deeply important time Bluesky needs polls. To settle the crunchy v creamy PB debate once and for all
(Also, as a citizen, I never stop at the welcome center, but did today. Nice place. It’s interesting to see how and what they’re “selling” as “Pure Michigan”).
Michigan historical marker sign claiming that the nation’s first Highway travel information center was opened in 1935 on US 12 near new Buffalo where the highway enters from Indiana. The new welcome center was completed in 1972 after the I-9 four freeway was completed
Who knew?
Grew up thinking crunchy PB was bad. I mean, why wouldn’t you only want creamy. Now, I mostly like crunchy. Wonder if that means anything deeper than just that I now prefer crunchy.
