I concur with your exclusion of both flamingos and crows
Terrible pics but can anyone ID these odd geese I spotted @wwtworldwide.bsky.social Barnes today? Think theyโre most likely Canada x Greylag hybrids #birding
Nice that #DHTLE by @tetzoo.bsky.social and me gets a shout out in @sciam.bsky.social from @stevebrusatte.bsky.social as one of his top pick dino books, thanks Steve! www.scientificamerican.com/article/10-d...
Was great to see our old friend Patagotitan juxtaposed with the awesome Norman architecture of Peterborough Cathedral at the grand opening of the Titanosaur exhibition last night
Sadly we might not be able to make any more of these due to budget issues, so if youโre enjoying them please share widely!
Just occasionally I get to do something fun before the day starts, on this case being given a ride on a genie to take a look at a dinosaur cast
Hey palaeo hive mind, has anyone seen a full mounted / replica heterodontosaurid in a museum display anywhere?
Just had a very lovely catch up with my former PhD student Terri Cleary, including the compulsory chocolate brownie cutting ceremony
Just limbering up ready for my choral societyโs performance of Haydnโs Creation, surely the hardest piece for an atheist scientist to sing in terms of its total lack of scientific rigour ๐คฆโโ๏ธ Cracking music though
Come join us @nhm-london.bsky.social! Exciting new research post opening in the area of Human Evolution - see the details here jobs.nhm.ac.uk/Job/JobDetai...
Who knows!? I prob have fewer to do than others โฆ
So far this week: completed bunch of annual reviews, several new gallery planning meetings, reviewed two papers, sat on three internal panels, helped complete two fellowship proposals, pushed a book toward publication, repaired some fossils. Might try and do some science today ๐ฆ
Really sad news. Hans worked on an incredible diversity of vertebrate groups but in particular made huge contributions to our understanding of the Triassic.
You should come say hi
Hereโs a pangolin I was lucky enough to walk with in the wild, from a few years back at Tswalu in South Africa #WorldPangolinDay
I mean, Iโm available if required. I could also provide much needed coaching in how to sing the anthems in time and in tune โฆ
Not sure if their merch team took that opportunity โฆ
A new bit of essential merchandise arrived in the office in time for #FossilFriday - though not sure who @england-rugby.bsky.social use as their dino specialist ๐ฆ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐
We have hornless horned dinosaurs so why not ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
The three most recent editions of Dinosaurs: How They Lived & Evolved.
Cover of new, 2026 edition of Dinosaurs: How They Lived & Evolved.
An advance personal copy has arrived: a 10th anniversary, 4th edition of #Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved, my
@nhm-london.bsky.social book with @profpaulbarrett.bsky.social. New sections on the book's ancestry, on dinosaur brains, intelligence, macroecology and more, plus LOADS of new art...
Itโs def one of my fave sauropods, I was lucky enough to look at the specimens in Argentina with Josรฉ Bonaparte and R McNeill Alexander for company!
Just got my hot-off-the-press copy of the new edition of Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved, written by @tetzoo.bsky.social and yours truly, with gorgeous new cover art from @bobnichollsart.bsky.social: finally, a sauropodomorph on the cover ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ On sale soon!
Interesting stuff, though sorry to see that the authors ignore the fact I made a similar suggestion in a paper I published in 2000, suggesting that omnivory primitive for a range of coelurosaurs (though not deinonychosaurs). Paper was cited for other reasons so odd they ignored this aspect of it โฆ
Second and final Xmas Lego gift unlocked: pretty good, even has an occipital condyle and epoccipitals. The palaeontologist prob not to scale, however, unless this was the largest #Triceratops ever
Well, the week ended in better fashion. One paper resubmitted, comment sent back on another and a quick drink to help celebrate @zehughes.bsky.social milestone birthday โฆ Oh, and the pistachio / chocolate croissants at Gailโs are a definite hit
You can tell itโs not been the best of weeks (paper rejection, grant rejection, awkward meetings, family medical emergency) when a highlight was seeing a photogrammetric model of my lower dentition (made to assess tooth damage, due to nocturnal grinding, caused by similar issues to above)
Finally managed to get to one of my Xmas presents last weekend โฆ a few hours of much needed downtime
Huh, so in a minor way I share an anniversary with Mantell - todayโs the 23rd anniversary of me joining the staff @nhm-london.bsky.social
Caught my eye instantly!
