California caregiving laws recognize chosen and extended family relationships. It’s time for bereavement leave to do the same. SB 1149, introduced today by Senator María Elena Durazo would allow workers to take bereavement leave to grieve for a chosen or extended family member.
The @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social's #CAbudget announced today—even with a lower forecasted deficit—continues to put immigrant communities and the whole health system at risk by delaying action on looming budget shortfalls created by the Trump Administration's H.R. 1.

📢We demand Congress #SayNO to this #BigUglyBill!
Don’t balance the U.S. budget on the backs of children, working families, & disabled communities!
‼️It’s time to support our children, our families, our veterans and STOP these tax cuts for billionaires.

⛔️The House of Representatives voted to rip food from workers & families by cutting #SNAP & #CalFresh.
🚫Instead, they want to give $$$ to ICE to kidnap people in our communities & create more inequality. Tell Congress: #SayNO to the #BigUglyBill ⬇️

Congress’s #BigUglyBill would stop millions of CA families from being able to afford prescriptions, care for kids with disabilities, or access safety if they’re a survivor of violence.

🚨This Budget Reconciliation Bill could inflict real harm on Californians enrolled in safety net programs.
📣We urge our leaders in Congress to reject in the Bill and STRENGTHEN Medicaid and SNAP to support ALL children and families.

Quote graphic: "A vote to gut Medicaid and SNAP is a vote to abandon seniors. If this bill becomes law, millions of seniors and people with disabilities will have the essential care and support they rely on every day taken away. This isn't speculation-it's a stark reality we have experienced after far less severe cuts." —Kevin Prindiville Executive Director, Justice in Aging
Today, the House voted to pass a bill that would make unprecedented cuts to #Medicaid, #Medicare, and SNAP—all to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
@kevinprindiville.bsky.social called the vote an “unconscionable” choice to abandon seniors.
