So you’re worried about eggs? How do you feel about coffee? Breakfast isn’t getting any easier.

If you’re feeling a sudden lack of good authors to read, may I suggest Nghi Vo, Priya Sharma, Martha Wells, and A.C. Wise.
Draft completed! An auspicious beginning.
Just finished Dan Chaon’s “The Bees.” So disturbing and tense. So tightly woven. Highly recommended. Also, how can you not love that cover.

OMG. I can’t. Matzah is losing his fur so I bought him some pajamas and now this is going to be a thing. #dogsinpajamas

This is the evening that would not quit. But between emergency dog baths, unexpected laundry, dinner, and work tasks, I did manage to get an hour’s worth of writing in. Better than nothing. I’m calling it a win. Goodnight, all.
There are so many resources out there. Just start building.
I look forward to this list every year and use it to help shape my TBR. Couldn’t help but notice a certain novella on here as well. 💙 Thank you, Ellen!

Almost done with this one and it has my heart in such a tight grip. I adore Martha Wells. Highly recommended.
Find your community. Find your support, and know, you are not the imposter.
So to all my fellow writers out there who keep coming back to the story and actually doing the work, you keep going. You're a writer and the only way you'll become a published writer is if you keep writing. Even when it's hard.
But if you use generative AI you are not a writer. You are an imposter, at best. At worst, you're a plagiarist.
You become a published writer by writing through failure. It's hard and it takes grit and determination. You have to engage in deliberate practice and be open-minded to feedback and criticism. It's work. It's fun work. It's hard work. It's frustrating and anxiety-invoking. But it's writing.
I don't think I've voiced my stance on the use of AI in creative endeavors here, so here it is. (A thread.)
I deal with "imposter syndrome" everyday, both my own and other people's. But if you sit down and actually write, you're not an imposter. You become a writer by writing. That's it.
I was so bad and went to the bookstore. I grabbed some essentials. I can’t resist a new Nghi Vo plus BASS and BASFF is always required reading (Along with Best Horror which is pre-ordered.) Add in some Babitz and Didion and it’s like I hit the jackpot.
My official accountability partner for today. I was getting ready to write, but in a different place than usual, and couldn’t find this baby. Turns out he was waiting for me in my usual writing spot. What a good boy! #dogs #chihuahua #writersdog #writerslife
I really enjoyed this. Both as an X-Files fan and as a big believer in growth mindset and seeking opportunities to fail.

Diving into The Penguin. Excited. I’ve heard good things.
I’ve gained so many followers I haven’t been able to keep up! Welcome. Very glad to see you here. Following back between other tasks.

Late night pup.
Hi, new friends! So lovely to see you. A quick note. I am always happy to follow good folks, but I am very careful who I let into my feed. Especially now. So, if I’m slow to follow, please don’t be offended. I’m driving with my flashers on.
Look at this gorgeous German edition of Wild Spaces! It comes in this beautiful boxed set from Cemetery Dance Germany with a truly swoon-worthy list of authors including Cassandra Khaw, Caitlín R. Kiernan, and Victor LaValle! I’m so honored #germantranslation #german #horror #lovecraftian

I’m absolutely floored that Wild Spaces is a finalist for the Philip K. Dick Award. And so thankful.

NEW VIDEO ALERT! Today on Bar Cart Bookshelf we're talking about WILD SPACES by @slconey.bsky.social. A deliciously atmospheric novella that shimmers with menace like heat over sand, soft and vanishing as sea foam. Our drink, Teach, is a briny oceanic mocktail for growing pains and sweltering heat.
Thank you so much! Fantastic interview.
