A looping GIF of a manual pencil sharpener in action. A yellow pencil is inserted into the sharpener, and as the handle is turned, the pencil rotates and gets sharpened. Shavings accumulate in the transparent compartment of the sharpener, showing the sharpening process.

‘You will be visited by three spirits.’
The three spirits:
A photographer is lying on the grass, holding the camera close to the ground, aiming forward, while a red fox is standing on his back. The fox has its head on the photographer's woolen hat.
A photographer wearing a gray beanie and camouflage jacket is standing beside a tripod, looking through the camera's viewfinder, with an owl perched on the large lens of a camera mounted on the tripod. The background shows rolling hills and an open landscape.
A meerkat is standing upright on the back of a man lying on the grass. The man is wearing a light-colored shirt and holding a camera with a long lens. The background is a grassy plain with no visible trees or structures.
A small cheetah cub is sitting on the shoulder of a man lying on the grass. The man, wearing a green cap and holding a camera with a large lens, is lying in a grassy field, focused on his shot.

Hey, UK! Happy first National Linguistics Day!
Proposals for NLD traditions:
(a) Add language wonder to every conversation.
(b) Exchange gifts of linguistics content.
(c) Sing linguistics carols:

(d) Do deeds to protect languages or linguistic institutions.
Most people don't seem to take note-writing very seriously as a skill.
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
If watching Star Wars has taught me anything about the future¹, it's that AI and technology sucks and still can't flawlessly execute all rebel attack positions in a single blast, and that people are still way too emotional.
