Very much so!
I've found that alignment can be useful for organizing a few individual characters, but it falls apart once you make an entire species one alignment in the stat block. OK for mooks, not as much for characters you actually have to think about.
Stumbling upon a dragon in the forest in the middle of a basking nap, and it just being too relaxed in the process to care that some random adventurers are passing by. Like they know they could wipe them off the face of Toril if they wanted but then they'd have to get up and lose their vibe.
I mean, maybe not for body heat reasons, but for magical reasons? Maybe some varieties don't just pick certain environments because they just "prefer" them, but if they live in a place that is close to their elemental aspect, they get more powerful, or heal faster, or both!?
So no basking needed, though with a typical fire breathing dragon it would be weird if they needed to bask, or even worse a frost breathing one...
But what if they did tho

I have started working on some adjusted dragon lore to inform my characters and stories and I have completely thrown out the good/evil alignment cause I think it's dumb, and having dragons be individuals that are less predictable is important to me.
Same goes for Metallics. A brass dragon who's been scorned one too many times and decided that humanoids are not welcome in their territory? Or a Bronze who decides that their favorite humans are part of some conquering empire that by all means causes far more suffering without their assistance?
Like yeah, a red dragon might be more likely to just destroy whatever is between them and their desire, but what if I want a red dragon who just wants to sit around and chill on their gold pile? Or a black dragon that doesn't just torture for the sake of it and chooses a different path?
The most annoying thing though is ALIGNMENT! I hate it with a passion, because as much as I love the "great beast at the top of the mountain terrorizing the countryside", my favorites are chromatics and I pretty exclusively write my chromatics to be less one-dimensionally evil.
Like you get a general idea for what each dragon is like from just looking at them, and building depth in those limitations. Like the red one breathes fire and the blue one breathes lightning, but there's even more lore when you look into it.
