I just don’t understand why this government didn’t immediately prioritise a university strategy on these lines as soon as it took office. Instead, ministers have simply watched the sector wither and dealt the hammer blow with the visa policy.

Philadelphia is the city I wish UK politics was obsessed with: every year there’s a new spin-out from the universities. This is what we should want (and could have) for all our cities!
