“As soon as it stops raining or snowing, we’re going to be back in the same situation with the salmon season closing,” said @jarosenfield.bsky.social, science director at San Francisco Baykeeper. “If we don’t protect river flows and cold water storage, then we’re not protecting salmon.”

Still can’t believe these epic skies over San Francisco during today’s thunderstorms 😍
In a major win for the South Bay, a federal judge has ruled that Mountain View & Sunnyvale violated the Clean Water Act by allowing raw sewage to flow into Stevens and Calabazas creeks--and that they must take steps to fix the problem:

The @noaa.gov data is in. March 2026 was 9.35 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century normal across the U.S., the warmest March in more than 130 years of records.
California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas were all record warm.
Orange fog and pink streaks with small, gray clouds over San Francisco Bay. Water is bluish-purple.

People are often surprised to find that sand mining is happening right here in SF Bay - with the blessing of the state, which has been selling millions of tons of sand to make concrete & asphalt.
But sand isn't just sand, as our director Sejal Choksi-Chugh writes: baykeeper.org/column/the-b...

San Francisco Baykeeper is suing the State Lands Commission over a deal allowing the removal of 1.7 million cubic yards of sand each year from the bottom of the San Francisco Bay.
Most people don't know this but the state is selling SF Bay's dwindling sand so that for-profit companies can turn it into concrete.
Bay sand provides habitat for countless creatures and literally shores up the shoreline. We *need* that sand.
So we're suing: baykeeper.org/press_releas...
