Open AI CEO, Sam Altman: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter."

@barkmeta

Let me get this straight... OpenAl was founded as a nonprofit. Open source. For everyone. "To benefit humanity." Then he raised billions of dollars. Then he closed the source code. Then he converted to for-profit. Then he scraped the entire internet without asking anyone. Then he used YOUR writing YOUR art YOUR code to train his models. Now he's on stage saying you'll pay HIM to access intelligence. Just like a water meter. He stole all of your data. He built the product with your work. And now he's going to bill you to use it... Corporate greed has reached an all time high, and they're not even hiding it anymore...

Someone on Twitter writes: "Are pleated pants back?

Feel like they only work if you're over 50 and can trace your lineage directly to the Mayflower"

Someone on Twitter writes: "Are pleated pants back? Feel like they only work if you're over 50 and can trace your lineage directly to the Mayflower"

Been seeing a lot of tweets about whether pleats are back. Are they "in" or "out?" Are they modern or old?

Personally don't like this line of thinking, as it's driven by ready-to-wear trends, which forces you to update your wardrobe every decade. Let me give you another way to think about pleats. 🧵

I wonder how many collective hours were spent on LOAC computer training, and now America has just decided to not follow the rules of war after all

I charged my EV last night (from 20 percent to 100 percent) and it cost me about $17.

Beyond the no gas, the car just rides so beautifully. Got it in July and cannot imagine ever going back to gas car.

This newborn kitten was abandoned by her mother and left with no chance on her own.
Thankfully, she's safe now and receiving the care she desperately needs.😻

I recently read an explainer on how LLMs work. It was great. It described how the probabilities of the next work were calculated. I'm pretty sure it was by a comm scholar because I remember thinking that this was impressively technical. But I can't remember who wrote it or where I read it. Help?

NYT says the damage to the hospital was likely from targeting "Network 2", a state-run news outlet.

What NYT DOESN'T say is that targeting civilians, even those who happen to work for state-run TV, is a war crime. I wonder why they didn't want to print that? One can only guess... 🙄

A party that is resolutely anti-bourgeois while being staffed and supported by the bourgeoisie is an intriguing and inevitably impossible strategy.

Anyway good luck attracting those Reform voters who hate you.

And even then, only once.

On two occasions this year, it would have actually increased the price because they only offered the discount on their higher price options...

It is an annoying scam. I wish they just wouldn't bother.

Now, I am actually a fan of Qatar Airways as an airline, but their constant, misleading, promises are annoying.

They constantly offer deals like this (20% off) to Privilege Club (their Frequent Flyer scheme) members. The important part is "Up To". The best saving I've ever had has been 1.2%.

Very seriously, are my standards too high? I expect people to understand they're on a global social media so are talking to people living in other countries, with different customs, accents/words, and food. I expect people to infer some basic meaning and understand if a topic is for them or not.

Guess The Press Can you guess the year from the front pages of old newspapers or copies of the UK music press?

Fixed another broken old game.
Can you guess what year the newspaper was published?

Looking back, I probably have split this into two games and reskinned it for the music press one. Different audience.

They tell us that LLMs save time and make things easier, but my experience is the exact opposite. LLMs are making research harder.

In its weird drive to win over Reform voters who will never vote Labour, the Labour party is doing it's level best to make sure Labour voters decide to never vote Labour.

Honestly, I am lost for words as to what they are thinking. It feels like every major party is absolutely adrift now.
