Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon

Photos from a walk around the Swindon Oasis. The iconic leisure centre closed in 2020 and has been left to decay. Plans to restore it stalled after housing proposals were refused. The domed pool and gig hall once made it a key venue. It’s sad. we need facilities.

After a few years of procrastination, I’m delighted to get this zine out into the wild. Hopefully the first of many.
I’m keeping a few free ones back. So if you want one, or want to gift one to someone in financial hardship then let me know and I’ll get one sent out.

The work comes from my documenting Swindon project. It started around the COVID-19 lockdown, as part visual diary and part psychogeography, recording my aimless walks around Swindon with the aim of getting to know the town better. It’s an ongoing project that continues today.

It's the footballification of politics - as James OB puts it

The first draft / design of a new zine. I have a few little tweaks to make and then I’ll make a limited print run. The photographs document my walks around the local town.

It's rewarding, and a learning process.

I designed and sequenced something a couple of years ago but didn't follow through with it. So, just picking up from where I left off, but of course my tastes have changed, and new photos have knocked out the sequence.

I did a weeks work for one gov department, was given a laptop, it never worked and I had to jump through some many hoops just to return it. I’m not surprised so many devices are lost

I always avoid landscape photography, but what caught my eye was the avoidance of the usual troupes.. so had to buy it! There even some Swindon in there!

my only expectation with a labour gov was the end of vindictive policies - it's a low bar, but they've blown that as well

was expecting labour to move left once in power.. no idea what they're playing at with taking on farage/reform. No idea what the answer is, if I vote green where I am, we'll get a tory!

We’ve been neglecting Blue Sky for a while for some unknown reason, so we’re making a conscious effort to start using it again 🙄

Just finished with 2 months of commuting to Madrid weekly for work, way too busy with focusing on the day job and didn't take many photos. Here's a few photos from the first week, taken while I still had some mental energy and the exhaustion from travel + work didn't take hold of me.

Argh typo, the social contract is what I meant. But I’m always up for more contrast

Austerity from 2010 dismantled the social contrast and laid the groundwork for Brexit and the shit show that followed - I dread to think where we'll in 5 or so years time.

black-and-white photograph captures a person standing in front of a wall with a repetitive pattern of rectangular openings. They are dressed in a coat, scarf, leggings, and boots, with their face intentionally blurred for anonymity. The ground is paved, and the wall serves as a striking geometric backdrop. At the bottom of the image, text reads: "Worry less" followed by "Documenting.Swindon" and "A Portrait of Swindon."

A black and white photograph shows a person standing in front of a graffiti-covered wall. The person's upper body is obscured by a blurred rectangle. The graffiti features various designs, including a cartoonish dinosaur with sharp teeth and a heart shape. The person is holding an umbrella, which touches the ground. Below the image, there is text that reads: "Not to sell my first house." The bottom left corner has the text "Documenting.Swindon," and the bottom right corner reads "A Portrait of Swindon."

Are these real photographers who are into politics or straight up bots? It’s boring if photographers are only interested in photography. Knowing the context in which someone makes work is interesting to me, e.g what angers them and how they visually communicate that through photography.
