NEW: A ProPublica and MLK50 analysis shows that just 17 of more than 800 immigration arrests made by Trump’s crime-fighting task force in and around Memphis were for violent crimes.
82% of the immigration arrests followed a traffic stop.

We’d love for donors to show their support in other ways, such as sending a note to our management that you support our union's fight for a fair contract via: a message in the post-donation survey, a note to donations@propublica.org, or an Action Network letter (linked below).
Great question! We ask that donors continue supporting ProPublica because your donations fund our journalism. Thank you for being a sponsor!
Yes, this was just a one-day strike!
We hope that the one-day walkout was enough to show ProPublica’s leadership how committed our union is to getting a fair contract, though we’ll consider further actions depending on how they show up at the bargaining table.
I hate that contract negotiations are not going better, but this is where we are. Today my colleagues and I @propublica.org are walking out. We need management to come to the table with more serious contract proposals that address our real concerns about discipline, job protections and fair wages.
Please support our union’s work toward a fair contract by NOT crossing our digital picket line! That means not visiting @ProPublica.org today, April 8.
(And please resume your support of @ProPublica.org all other days, we love the journalism we do!)
I love this job. I love ProPublica. I love my editors and my coworkers. And I would love to see us get to the finish line on the best contract possible for staff, so we can get back to focusing ALL of our energy on the work we're here to do.
Yesterday, 92% of us voted YES (w/ 99% participation) to authorize a strike if @propublica.org management refuses to compromise on core issues.
We need a fair contract that will protect the in-depth investigative reporting that our readers expect.

NEW: To dramatically increase the amount of energy available to power artificial intelligence, the Trump administration is rewriting thousands of pages of nuclear power regulations while downplaying safety issues and focusing on industry incentives.
I'm asking for help covering the IG community. Please reach out if you have info and/or share with anyone you think might be receptive.
Thanks 🙏

I love working at @propublica.org and i don't want there to be a strike.
But i still voted in favor of authorizing one because the looming risk of an imminent walkout may be the only way to get management to take our demand for a fair contract seriously.

ProPublica’s work has never been more important. We don’t want to strike but we need a FAIR CONTRACT

Our award-winning research team at @propublica.org is growing! Ideally you'll have years of experience in investigative journalism, but we're open to candidates with deep government or academic research and management skills:

2. Just incredible, backbreaking work to do this sort of forensic investigation in general… to do it when there was no internet in Iran is staggering.

After decimating the organization, we are bargaining per our contract with management. We have featured testimonials from Post employees. Here’s some of them had to say. Here’s what these layoffs have done to us. #SaveThePost 🧵
Proud to join my colleagues yesterday to push for a fair contract. We just want the same rights as our peers in other unionized newsrooms.
(That's not me in the mouse (rat?) costume, though I wish it was.)
A line chart going from Jan 2009 to Jan 2026 showing very few cases until Trump’s second term, where the line takes off nearly vertically, showing more than 6,600 cases in Jan 2026 alone.
Habeas cases filed by immigrants claiming their detention is illegal have taken off to levels we have never seen before. Just look at that chart.

NEW: ProPublica went inside the detention center for immigrant families in Dilley, Texas.
Children held there told us about the anguish of being ripped from their lives in the United States and the fear of what comes next.
The sign! 🤩 The solidarity! 😍
Hand-made signs with cut-out letters. One says "We [heart] Post Reporters". The other uses the print newspaper section heds to write: "METRO, SPORTS, STYLE, THE WORLD PROTECT THE WASHINGTON POST"
A large crowd rallies in front of a building. A sign reads "Democracy cries in darkness".
Our members joined the #SaveThePost rally in D.C. today to protest the mass layoffs at the Washington Post. We stand in solidarity with @postguild.bsky.social. Support laid off workers: www.gofundme.com/f/standing-t... + www.gofundme.com/f/support-fo... ✊
The Washington-Baltimore News Guild strongly condemns the layoffs announced today at The Washington Post. These cuts represent yet another blow to a newsroom that has already been pushed to its limits and a disservice to the readers who rely on The Post for rigorous, independent journalism.
Amid calls to increase transparency and revelations about the U.S. Supreme Court's inner workings, Chief Justice John Roberts imposed nondisclosure agreements on clerks and employees. People familiar with them said they appeared to be more forceful.
1/ BREAKING: Government documents reviewed by ProPublica identify Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa, 43, and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez, 35, as the two who fired their weapons during the deadly encounter with Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.
This image shows a logo of The Washington Post Guild and our statement: The Post Guild vehemently opposes any more cuts to the staff of The Washington Post. As we’ve seen in recent years, continuing to eliminate scores of workers who make this storied institution what it is only stands to weaken the newspaper, drive away readers and undercut The Post’s mission: to hold power to account without fear or favor and provide critical insight into communities across the region, country and world. If Jeff Bezos no longer supports that mission, then The Post and its readers deserve a steward who does. If you value The Post’s journalism and its renowned past — if you care about its future — we ask that you join us in our call to #SaveThePost.
#SaveThePost, Jeff Bezos.
"The outrageous seizure" of @hannahnatanson.bsky.social's records "chills speech, cripples reporting, and inflicts irreparable harm." Anything less than immediate return "would license future newsroom raids and normalize censorship by search warrant" www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...
News:
Last night, @rcfp.org filed a motion in EDVA to unseal records related to the WaPo reporter warrant.
Currently all of the judicial records are sealed, including the affidavit purporting to justify the government’s actions.
