If these schools are doing well then it just means other schools will suffer because a nationally a third must fail.

The GCSE system is designed to fail approximately a third every year regardless of the standard reached by students. It is to prevent criticism of the exam being too easy. So every year students and teachers work harder and every year a third still fail.

I know how to teach dyslexic children but a teacher with a class of 20-30 students does not have the time to do it. All schools should have a dedicated teacher for dyslexic students.

A nice summary of a Delphi study (that can be found here: osf.io/preprints/os...), which sought consensus on dyslexia. Highlights the link between oral and written language. #SLPeeps

I find the discussions about 'fun' in education really interesting because to my mind what we're actually talking about is encouraging intrinsic motivation, supporting engagement and building on learner interests and agency. Thread. 🧵 1/4

School doesn’t need to be fun, but it should be interesting. Also DI is the most effective way to ensure all students get the knowledge and skills they need but this should be followed by a time for student agency and inquiry. Best of both worlds.

Thanks for this brilliant summary… amid the many ofsted flaws finally acknowledging the contingency of pedagogy upon content was not one of them!

Neurodiverse man embarks on mission to help others get jobs Matthew Punter, who has autism and ADHD, was expelled from more than 10 schools as a young boy.

If schools and local authorities actually made accomodations for neurodivergent individuals, rather than trying to make us mimic neurotypical people, many of us would have flourished more at school, instead of being written off. 1/

How Can I Help A Child Who Struggles To Learn Times Tables By Heart? I originally wrote this blog post back in 2016 in response to a tweet by Tom Bennett as well as to challenges I was experiencing as a teacher in year 6. I've found myself sharing it with people recent...

This is one of those blog posts that ticks along doing respectable numbers just from organic google searches.

Clearly a widespread problem.

It's a very personal one this as I have always struggled with times tables.
