Very pleased to see phones in school will now be banned by law.
This creates a very clear position from which schools can discuss this issue with parents, lessening any potential diminishing of relationship between school and home.
If you are planning your St George's Day assembly this week, this resource pack and video might be useful.

Just filled up. Forecourt pretty empty, all pumps working. Must be localised
Don’t fuel the panic
This is a great write up. It's a speech the likes of which should be given to teachers and parents alike up and down the country. I hope my school will be one of these you describe, and the schools my children will go to

If a child can't understand a text, it's often not a skills deficit, it's a knowledge deficit

There is nobody more informed, knowledgeable and clear on the issues surrounding smartphone use than the excellent Jean Twenge.
This short article on the damage phones do to our pupils’ social skills and learning is essential reading today.

Two years ago, I set off on a personal pilgrimage, walking the length of Britain from Lands End to John O’Groats.
The single most transformative experience of my life.
Along the way, I published a blog and daily video of the trip.

Yes, I still believe that is a good rule of thumb in any organisation. In a MAT, that would mean nobody earning more than around £240k salary.
The long service bonuses I suggest in the blog could easily fit within this if the bonus is considered as a five or ten year cost.
In which I call for headteachers to be given a £600K bonus… amongst other things…

"When it goes well, teachers are not simply delivering content, they are doing species-defining work." Wow, that's a way to make Monday morning feel a little less humdrum!
Really interesting post sharing insights from anthropology with clear, concrete classroom applications
Hopefully Tomasello is still a big deal for post-grads :-) His work is absolutely fantastic. Becoming Human remains one of my favourite books.
