According to Humanities Indicators, humanities majors work across a wide range of sectors, earn substantially more than non-degree holders, & report high job satisfaction. The "unemployable humanities grad" is a myth. We need more humanists.

Followed! still brainstorming for now, haven’t gotten to backups yet. 1st idea has been to use OCI’s free tier for app data backup plus my NAS while separately using AWS Glacier similar long term storage to back it up.

A DIY approach is tough with both RAM & storage as expensive as they are now.

Had an amazing convo with Gemini to ideate on a distributed home lab cluster setup based on the hardware I have amassed over the years. The joy of repurposing older hardware into fully owned #selfhosted systems using apps like Forgejo, Immich, and Linkding is indescribable.

At #bsidesclt and a speaker just made a reference to Cydia and jailbreaking iOS. Good memories.

I just wished someone would make a Linux shell that is a perfect clone of Windows 7.

I would be so happy and switch in an instant.

My biggest wish for #apple is for target display mode to be brought back for iMacs. The status quo makes iMacs basically disposable computers which is insane and goes counter to all their environmental messaging.

Never did I ever imagine that, being as far as I am into my career now, I would one day be able to just come back to my alma mater as a professional to get a work day in.

Remotely.

DHS Wants a Single Search Engine to Flag Faces and Fingerprints Across Agencies Homeland Security aims to combine its face and fingerprint systems into one big biometric platform—after dismantling centralized privacy reviews and key limits on face recognition.

The DHS is moving to consolidate its face recognition and other biometric technologies into a single system capable of comparing faces, fingerprints, iris scans, and other identifiers collected across its enforcement agencies, according to records reviewed by WIRED.

Generally strive to not elevate or praise the instruments nd supporters of the regime, however I think this is a nice framework to identify what are the tasks worth spending time on.

The FBI searched a Washington Post reporter’s home as part of an investigation into classified material, people familiar with the matter said. It is exceedingly rare for federal agents to search a journalist’s home. trib.al/tKsg85n

MAGAland can be summarized as the freedom to act without care of consequences.

So everyone can harm each other, except nobody likes that and will use the courts to defend themselves.

But some have more resources & clout to better defend themselves than others.

Thus MAGA = laws for thee not me.

Today marks 15 years since Gabby Giffords was shot at a constituent meeting, in an attack that killed 6 and wounded 13.
I am proud to cosponsor a bipartisan, bicameral resolution to honor the victims and their families today, and recommit to ending gun and political violence.

So. We've learned a little more about the shooting, namely that witnesses report that the two ICEholes that got out of the truck gave the driver conflicting orders; one to leave and one to get out of her vehicle.

First, here is DHS Use of Force policy in full.

Eternal optimist here, if this is how the world massively increases space travel research R&D and gets us to where we could have been before the crippling Nixon era cuts to NASA in the 70s then sign me up.

Grid bottlenecks aren’t a failure of the energy transition — they’re proof it’s working.

Renewables got cheap fast, and now the grid has to catch up. Time to build the wires for the clean energy system we already have.

I wish there was a wishlist feature in the App Store. I will see apps like Streaks that I am interested in buying but no way of keeping track of them except through a Reminders list of as a text list in the Notes app.

“ 🥭 wants to rename the DoD to Department of War”

I sincerely hope there are a group of Democrats out there or just concerned federal civil servants that are keeping track of every single change he is doing so it can all be undone in 2029.

If I were to ever give up on MacBook Pros and switch to PCs, whatever model I would get I would only keep Windows on it for the battery life efficiency. I would install a Linux VM and make that my daily driver.
