In my experience, especially as a Black woman journalist, the opinion page is all too often the only forum where the "real journalism" (or lack thereof) of white journalists gets challenged.

Let's take the *ahem* Washington Post and Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech.

I teach on the mythologizing of American journalism's supposed noble origins in my Race, Media & International Affairs class.

For a good chunk of American newspaper history, stretching to colonial papers-- there was sensationalizing, unverified news, and papers that actively called for violence!
