I moved away from the area in 2021, but IIRC Mountain View Caltrain has the disadvantage that a bunch of its walkshed was developed within the last 20 years at totally inadequate heights. Palo Alto has the "advantage" that there was no such development because the zoning (e.g. SOFA II) is so bad.

The 10 stations whose March 2026 average temperature was higher than their record April average temperature. Prior to 2026, none of the 385 NWS ThreadEx stations had achieved this feat. Note: a previous version had Oxnard mislocated.

This entire administration is uninformed people laughing at experts, rejecting their advice, and then discovering why the experts said what they said.

Pfizer has ended its large Phase III Trial of an updated COVID19 vaccine.

They were not able to enroll enough people to meet their goal.

A major problem is the FDA’s wholly unreasonable demand that people with chronic conditions, who benefit most from the vaccine, not be allowed to participate.

There are also huge differences between places in what sort of rainfall they have to handle. The accepted world record one minute rainfall was set less than 100km from Washington DC.

🚨🚨🚨 March 2026 was the warmest March on record according to Prism climate data (1895-present). Previously, 2012 was far and away the warmest March, but this March beat 2012 by about half a degree Fahrenheit. This map shows how March temperatures ranked compared to all other Marches.🔥🔥🔥

Also please make it a parliamentary system with proportional representation (or MMP, probably even better) with a 5% threshold. Maybe structure the supreme court appointments like the federal reserve board?

And then still require states to choose between federal or California Air pollution law. 😜

Or, as I was once told by someone who grew up in the E near the E/W border (not Berlin), they published fake maps to make people think the border was further away rather than being walking distance.

The Air France FAs aren't going to miss having to explain things to the elderly couple sitting behind me:

"To make your connection you will have to take a bus to another airport."

[ Studies printout of itinerary] "Oh, is that why it says Airbus A320 here?"

"No..."

Though another important aspect of HTML and CSS is that they are not an API for the developer to do as they want; the user and the user agent also have a say. So they really are handled in different ways in different contexts.

I realize my experience may be atypical, but my experience was definitely the opposite. Though I'm counting the property management companies (they changed management while we were there) operating on behalf of a nearly anonymous landlord as corporate.

Hegseth Strikes Two Black and Two Female Officers From Promotion List

I remember when the media used to act coy about whether the Trump administration was racist or sexiest.

Now it’s just standard practice in the military to demote, fire or pass over Black people and women for promotion.

As the first reanalysis data become available, I think I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that the March 2026 heatwave will go down as the most anomalously extreme heat event ever observed at any time of year in the southwestern U.S.

Why does this debate over street widths matter? Because an increasingly large body of evidence shows that wide streets increase traffic fatalities and injuries. That really matters, because traffic fatalities and injuries are MUCH more common than fire fatalities and injuries.
