A wonderful pair of medieval effigial floor memorials at Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome
The marble & bronze sarcophagus memorial for Cardinal Pietro Foscari (d 1485) looks incongruous in the Costa Chapel, Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome
That’s because it was originally in the Foscari Chapel, which was demolished in 1600
The 1505 altarpiece by Gian Cristoforo Romano is also magnificent

It was reassembled from fragments in the 1920s

Yes, perhaps my favourite museum, beautiful pieces and at a size that’s “manageable”
I find places like V&A, MANN in Naples, Altes Museum in Berlin etc just too big and overwhelming
